We’re still 6-3. But the AFC is extremely competitive, the Texans are only a game behind us, and our upcoming schedule is BRUTAL:

  • Texans
  • Bengals
  • Browns
  • Ravens

We can’t go into the Texans game on a 2-game losing streak with them likely continuing on a super hot streak (they play the Cardinals this week). If we enter that stretch of games at 6-4, we may come out of it barely .500 on the season.

To me this feels similar to the Bills game last night - we need to win these home games against inferior opponents if we want to make the playoffs, both for our record and our team confidence.

What do you think?

Yes, it is a must win if we want to win the South. We are only 1 game ahead of Houston, and Houston is playing a lot better than us right now.

Not exactly, but doing so would give you a buffer against that schedule if Houston does sneak behind you.

As for the Tits, this team currently averages a laughable 12 points per game on the road this year and by kickoff will not have won a road game within a calendar year. You’re not going to like it if you manage to pull out an L.

With a one game lead in the division yes these two division games are critical. It’s possible that 10-11 wins might be needed to win the south.

Few things: titans run defense had a skid but started the year strong. Their offensive woes should make for easy work assuming the jags offense gets right. Levis has no one to throw to and their OL is patchwork.

Texans are good but beatable. Their offensive scheme is from Kyle and Mike Shanahan and it has gotten McVay and McDaniel Hc jobs bc of all of the motion and disguise work before getting into a counter happy west coast offense where CJ Stroud has enough timing and good enough weapons to make plays. Their defense is ascending and loaded with top talent but they’re not worldbeaters.

    What does “must win” mean?

My first take is being in control of our own road to The playoffs. If that’s the case then it’s definitely not. Even if we lose, we still control our own destiny because if we beat Houston the next week we are still in the driver’s seat for the division.

Now obviously our schedule is harder etc, but then we’re talking about hypotheticals, not imperative (i.e. must).

On the other hand even if we win this week, if we lose to Houston, we no longer control our own destiny. We would need them to lose more down the stretch. So I would say Houston is a must win whether we win this week or not (assuming Houston doesn’t lose this week I suppose).

Many fans are looking just at likelihood. If we lose next weekend our playoff chances will dip dramatically. So it seems like a must win. But if that’s the case, every game is a must win until you clench your spot. Which you could certainly make an argument for.
