I’ve been using a 9700k since 2018 and am thinking about upgrading. I got a 3090 a bit ago and the 9700k is obviously bottlenecking what I can get out of it. Should I wait another year or upgrade soon?

15th gen at least gives you an upgrade path rather than buying into a dead platform. That’s if you can wait until next year.

You should upgrade whenever the performance of what you have isn’t sufficient for what you do with it anymore. You can always wait for the next thing and the expectation almost always will be that the next thing will be better than the thing before it but that’s not helping you as the user when your current setup isn’t satisfying anymore.

I personally try not to get sucked into the waiting game for the ‘next thing’. There will ALWAYS be a next thing to wait for, better and badder components…I would say: unless something has already been officially announced and it is reasonably close, say in 3 months max, go get what you want/need now. Go for the 14700k

I have the 9700K as well, and gen 15 it is.
