For context, we have been troubleshooting this for days and we’re currently at a loss! We just got spectrum installed in the new house, with the Modem connected in the basement. Originally we had a Cat5e cable that ran through the wall to an ethernet outlet on the first floor. We put a google nest wifi puck thing there hardwired on the first floor, then placed a second one upstairs. Upstairs is where the work from home office is as well as our gaming computers (2 of them). All connected wirelessly. We also have a google nest home with ADT security with all that jazz connected wirelessly as well.
My gf and I were playing Ark Survival Ascended, and were getting dropped about every half hour. When we check the speeds on ookla, we get the advertised 500/20 we pay for. But when we play anything really, the internet drops and we cannot even load a web page until it recovers after a minute, then we can usually go for another half hour or so. Spectrum when we called said everything is fine and it may be the cable between the modem and google nest.
We replaced the google router with an asus router ATX58-U and ran a new Cat 6 from the modem through the laundry shoot all the way up to the second floor. We placed the router upstairs in the hallway about 20-30ft from our computers in the office. Speeds showed good on ookla and we were running smoothly for almost a whole day of gaming, and suddenly in the evening the drops started happening again.
We have reset both the modem and router multiple times through this journey, along with factory resetting the router.
My gf is at home working and getting 10mbs/5mb speed right now just with her work computer going.
Is there any way we can continue to remain wirless and not have this happening? Spectrum last time said the speeds were fine and there were no outages and only a few minor errors that triggered but is normal.
