  • This all sounds great but doesn’t work because of herd mentality. No one wants to be wrong to they will essentially end up backing each other even if the decision is ridiculously overkill.

    Let’s say something similar like Rashford’s recent red card in CL happened in PL. The ref thinks it’s a red but in hindsight it never really a red at all. He wasn’t trying to injure the player & his foot was in a natural position and the opposition played happened to place his foot there.

    Sure it looks like a red when you play it in slow motion on VAR but where is was Rashford supposed to place his foot ? He didn’t even see the opponent’s foot there as he was looking to control the ball. Was that a red ? of course not. A red is for intentional harmful behavior. This was an unintentional coming together.

    No amount of independent refs will overturn the onfield refs red. For some vain reason they perceive being told to overturn their decision is an embarrassment. This happens all the time in Cricket & other sport. All the fans care about is a fair game that’s fun to watch. Making the sport about your own ego as a ref is childish and genuinely narcissistic.
