  • I meant structure as in existing stuff, not ‘structural’ as in load-bearing. Extra wood would indeed still count as ‘structure’ within the context I meant.

This is, however, not just extra wood. What was cut through in the picture is floor joists, which are what holds up the flooring and supports whatever is on the floor, including people and furniture. Cutting these joists severely compromised the integrity of the floor. Now instead of a squeak from stepping in that spot, it’s far more likely that a loud crack followed by a fall through the floor will be the result of a heavy step.

  • Switch to 2x4, make sure the ones on the bottom (known as ‘runners’) are standing on edge. Then use 3" coarse thread screws to attach the slats. We build them like that at my workplace to ship and store drums of material that are 1600 - 8000 lbs per pallet. So unless your machines are more then 2000lbs per square foot, you should be fine. The important part is to mark the center of gravity, NOT the center of the machine. As long as the pallet is lifted at CoG, it should move around just fine.

  • Yes, for three reasons.

    1. I judge the color to be sure I’m not getting sick and it’s just a regular need to blow my nose.
    2. I check for the presence of any blood, since I work around materials and in environments that can cause alot of dry air, giving me a higher incidence of nose bleeds.
    3. My work environments are very dusty, and if Inhave alot of black or grey dust when I blow my nose, I know I need to clean my airways when I get the chance so the dust isn’t in there longer then a day.
