  • I’m not hating on this idea of fake transmissions but I just don’t get it. These auto manufacturers are spending all this money developing a fake manual transmission when most people don’t even want a REAL manual transmission. There’s only a handful of new cars that come with manual options. Why? Because no one wants them.

Besides that point, all it’s going to do is cost a bunch of extra money to the consumer. I guess if you want to spend your money this way, whatever, but I’m pretty hell-bent on the idea that if there’s an on/off button for this, it’ll never be used. I have a work Jeep that has the flappy paddle shifters that can be used, you know how often I use them? Never, because why would I? This is coming from a guy who has owned 4 vehicles in his entire life, all of which have manual transmissions. I just bought a brand new Tacoma with a stick. I love driving a manual, love being connected to the car, love racing my old Subaru around the track or at an AutoX, and absolutely am a ride-or-die manual transmission guy! But I never use those silly flappy paddles, because there’s no purpose. So, in my opinion, what’s the purpose of a fake manual? There is none. Other than the extremely occasional “this is kind of neat” then flips the off button for the remaining 99.9% of the drive.
