its about rarity, the skins are simply cosmetic, but as crates go out of circulation and are no longer offered in the shop they get rarer, this knife was a karambit which is a very coveted knife. the CS skin market has just gotten very inflated over the years.

Lol I got the knife maybe 6 years ago from a crate which Is very lucky, it appreciated from 40 dollars to 800 over that time, don’t play the game anymore so I just sold it for the new deck, gonna use my old one as a PC for my office

I was able to sell a Counter-strike knife for 800 dollars days before the release so i’m essentially getting it for free lol.
