They tried to go for glory with 9.1, but the system crashed before it could save a validation file of the result. The validation file is sent to a website to confirm that everything was legit before a world record can be claimed.

    So they saw 9.1 GHz on CPU-Z, but not long enough to generate the validation file. The system was stable long enough on 9.044 GHz to generate the file so that is the actual world record.
