  • Not saying there’s any reason to switch, but I believe you can load CSV’s into sqlite.

Datasette would be something that I would try for CSV’s as well, that seems like an interesting piece of technology I haven’t had reason to use yet.

Finally there’s always Jupiter Notebook and any respectable DataFrame-solution.

Not to knock spreadsheet-solutions too much - I certainly see their value and use them frequently - but if I had to do something that warranted writing VBA, I’d probably reach for a tool I could combine with some form of VCS like Git at least.

  • Fermented foods have good microbes in them while they are fermenting up until something kills them - they are still very much fermented though regardless of whether the microbes are alive or not. The fundamental alteration has already happened.

Now, if you’re looking to eat them specifically for the microbes, and not for the flavour, then you’d have to look for something that has not had the microbes killed off, for sure.

  • Eliminating certain kinds of food entirely

Some foods tended to be things I quite simply ate too much of, and eliminating them entirely was the simpler option. Snacks are obvious in this category, but less obvious for me was bread and sandwiches.

Walking, a whole lot of it

Running can often be the exercise that comes to mind when wanting to lose weight, which is natural on account of its cultural prevalence and high energy requirement. The problem is that you can’t really do a whole lot of it without getting tired, and if you’re overweight it probably hurts like hell to do it.

Walking, on the other hand, can be done essentially in unlimited quantities. I took every opportunity to go for long walks at a brisk pace, listening primarily to podcasts but also audiobooks to keep me entertained. It was also a good opportunity to catch up with family by giving them a call.

    Caloric restriction

At the end of the day, no matter what kinds of food I ate, my appetite still pushed me to put more energy into my body than I was able to spend. As such, I had to implement some form of caloric restriction to keep the number going down.

These things worked for me but may not be appropriate for you. Losing weight is very hard, some trial and error is probably a good idea. Good luck!

  • iirc the Novorossisk port is kind of bad, right?

Regardless, Baltic Sea access isn’t super great when you’re entirely choked out by Denmark for access to the Atlantic. Same goes for Black Sea and access to the open seas - Turkey and arguably also Spain/UK block several times on the way.

The Pacific ones freeze over and are kind of blocked by Japan, essentially.

It’s going to be interesting to see how much Russia’s geopolitical position improves from rising global temperatures - if their pacific ports become ice-free, then that changes the game quite a bit.

I see - remembering to bring the laundry inside is the issue.

While there’s nothing wrong with using a dryer - I’m certainly not going to deny you the privilege - perhaps hanging the clothes inside could be a passable workaround for the memory issue? Assuming your indoor environment allows for it, that is.
