I would like a proper discussion on this. Is that the goal?
Legitimately asking, as the only point I can pull from OPs post is that it fixed shield meta.
I’ll try to list the issues I feel like are there that weren’t in OW1, please counter them. If I have a mental block that keeps me from enjoying OW2 I’d be grateful to have it removed.
In return we now:
have super mega tanks as they all had to gain crazy numbers to balance the fact that all the bullets should head to them first by design.
one tank means there’s nothing to do if you have a bad/inexperienced one. You’re just done. Enjoy your steam roll.
Disruption tanks like WB and Winston are either YOLO jump in and die or hit and run. (Both good and bad, but still feels very different when there’s no secondary to hold the line in between)
Not sure what to point to, but games now feel like a clusterf. In OW1 you pick a tank to follow depending on who they picked and where they’re going, and the fights revolved around them. In my mind it was like having two teams going at two angles you had to go with or respond to. Now there’s the juggernaut and its annoying flies doing whatever.
Counter to OPs point:
I imagine the influx of new heroes over time would have adjusted the meta on its own. The stagnant production of late OW1 was a lot of why shield meta became so bad in my opinion. If it stayed, I still believe it could have been addressed without changing the game’s fundamentals and dominoing into so many other required adjustments as a result.
It felt like saying “my leg hurts and has issues, but I amputated it and pumped it full of steroids so it can now support my whole body”.
