I chose Genshin Impact because it introduced many people in the West to gacha games. I agree that there are gacha games with more predatory mechanics and more sexualization than Genshin Impact, and conversely, there are some with fewer.

I firmly believe that the “won’t change anything” argument is not sufficient. Although it’s true that Gacha games generate a significant portion of their earnings in Asia, they have increasingly gained popularity in the West, particularly after the success of Genshin Impact. These games normalize gambling practices and exploit emotions such as loneliness, making them particularly dangerous. It’s crucial for individuals, especially minors, to be aware of the risks these games pose before downloading and engaging with them.
