Not a chance. The B2 is a manned platform. It’s also quite an old one which would require a huge program to create an autonomous capability. The B2’s successor (the B21) is coming soonish so such a program would have no support. Right now, autonomous military aircraft are mostly being considered for support roles like tankers with future projects of “loyal wingman” fighters to fly alongside a manned fighter. A deep, precision strike from an untested technology would never fly.

Amen! I went to a restaurant that had this layout. Each stall was like it’s own little room with a full sized door and a shared sink area. It’s more efficient use of space and you get a better stall. The only thing that I think would make it better would be a small side area with a couple urinals.

I like your optimism but disagree with your conclusion. Even before factoring in cost, I think there are far more drawbacks than benefits for 3D printing a house. Even if it lowered the cost of frame building to free, it still wouldn’t be used because all the other problems it would create. The costs of mitigating those problems will keep it niche and expensive.

The real innovations in home construction aren’t going to be noticed by the average person. It will be things like new types of lumber, greater use of pre-fab sections, etc. This article is likely pushed by a PR firm for a startup to get funding from the UN based on buzzwords and hype.

I seriously doubt 3D printed homes will ever be disruptive in any real sense. Effectively, it makes frame building easier. But that has never been the limiting factor in construction. All of the wiring, plumbing, etc is what is most difficult about building a home.

This company intends to do away with all that by just building a basic structure for people that need housing the most. Their “printer” is very cheap and fits in a shipping container. This is pretty much best case scenario, and it still would be upstaged by a shipping container of cinder blocks. The use case for 3D printed homes is luxury housing with funny shapes sold for high prices.

You’re moving the goalposts. Neither the person you’re replying to nor the article mention anything about relaxing the standard. All of the legislation and proposals in this area come from Republicans trying to make it harder for non-citizens to vote.

The article is pointing out the boogyman nature of this focus from the right. I would go a step further and say that this focus is an effort to disenfranchise working class voters by throwing more paperwork between them and their vote. I might even go another step and say that it’s an effort to delegitimize our elections by claiming fraud to pave the way for illegitimate power grabs (like Jan 6).

Agreed. During the pandemic, I adopted a policy of unsubbing to any subreddit that made me angry. Usually this came in the form of people bringing up trump/capitalism/whatever out of completely nowhere. luckily the Beehaw people seem to be pretty good about actually having conversations and not just devolving into mocking trump every second. But whenever I venture into some of the other instances, I see some of Lemmy’s true colors. Chronically online people completely out of touch with reality kinda run shit around here.

I think you’re overselling the importance of this one. When I’ve talked to friends about federated alternatives, they really aren’t interested. Even if they hated Twitter/reddit and think they’ve gotten worse, they just don’t really care about a federated alternative. I’ve heard some interest in threads, so maybe we count that?

This is just a standard fact of life for expats in Japan. I lived there for a while. I realized any meeting of foreigners would eventually devolv into everyone trading stories about how they’d been discriminated against that week. I met so many Japanese who were friendly and open and wanted to get to know me. But when you needed to get something done, you’d find office-workers, managers, cashier’s, post office workers, etc would rather just not deal with you. We called it the gaijin card when you would be especially rude and assertive to get your way. It often worked but it sucked having to be a dick just to get basic respect.

Personally, I think the US should end the Prosperity Guardian operation. It should end support for Israel. And it should end oil imports. This will push America more towards decarbonization while reducing America’s interest in the Middle East. But that will raise gas prices, so it’ll never happen.

There’s being informed, and there’s being saturated to the the point it affects your mental health. In 2020, I had to unsub a bunch of subreddits that had a tendency to bring up trump even when he wasn’t part of the subject at all because I was starting to really spiral. I understand wanting a reprieve from the firehouse that is the Trump/anti-trump “discourse”. It’s not so bad now, thankfully.

IANAL, but it doesn’t seem like this is a big deal. DOJ wanted to know if the defense was going to use a particular defense. The judge didn’t compel the defense to disclose their defensive strategy. Maybe a lawyer can provide some insight but this seems like a non story.
