So to get infected, you need to download and unpack a ZIP archive sent to you from an unknown address, then execute the file it contains? In that case, I’m not too worried.

Don’t use FreeBSD on a notebook.
Unless you can live without energy management, suspend, bluetooth, function keys and usable wifi speeds out of the box.
Is there any reason not to use Debian when you’re already happy with it on your main rig?
the version change is right there in the screenshot.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
I’m a huge Tarantino fan and enjoyed every single one of his movies, except that one.
Maybe you had to have been in the Hollywood scene at the time to understand the humor, but I was bored out of my mind the whole time and wondered whether he’s making fun of the audience and seeing if he can get away with a movie without a real storyline if he just includes his signature foot shots, long conversations about nothing and a massacre at the end.
If they can run Windows 7, they can run any Linux.
We’re talking pre-7th gen i5’s
My gaming and photo editing PC has a 4th gen i5.
Yes but Debian still ships a version that doesn’t.
I fully agree, regarding Debian. I would never recommend it to any new user. However, every single distro actually targeted at new users doesn’t have this issue.
And if I hadn’t known about this issue before, I probably wouldn’t even have noticed that scrolling is a bit smoother after the adjustment.
Bonus: Windows has enough of these completely inscrutable mannerisms as well. Want to change the icon of a program pinned to the taskbar? You’ll find the shortcut file in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar
Want to switch to a different standard browser? In Windows 11, you have to set that for every single file type a browser can open separately.
Want to write a lengthy formula in Excel? There’s a hard-coded 255 character limit.
The list goes on.
2030s design:
Debian. I had run such a stripped-down version for many years, I forgot it now has everything a beginner distro needs in the default install.
YOU ARE BEING RESCUED.
PLEASE DO NOT RESIST.
Depends on the distro. On Debian I upgrade cause I know it works well. On Ubuntu I always had issues after an upgrade so I do a clean install don’t use Ubuntu anymore.
I’d copy my cat and call the copy “Copycat”.
Kali is the least secure of all distros, it runs everything as root and is meant as a tool to boot from an USB stick for pentesting, not for installation on your machine.
I’ve had less “just works” luck with OPENSUSE than with Arch.
Yes. Worst marketing ever!
A pair of traditional leather boots that were stiff and sturdy enough to support me through anything and last long enough to be buy it for life. The pair weighed over 5 pounds. After 6 months they still hurt after a hike and I gave up breaking them in. Cost me over 300€, and I replaced them with a pair of 80€ trail running shoes which were better in every way for my use case and also lasted 12 years.
There isn’t an ISO for Linux Mint with Xfce.
What I would try:
sudo live-installer-expert-mode
It should boot the Debian expert installer, which lets you choose what DE you want to install. I haven’t tested this on LMDE, though.
Otherwise, install LMDE normally. Then do
sudo apt install xfce4
andsudo apt purge cinnamon* muffin* nemo*
.
