Luckily, in real life (not a meme) we don’t have to choose.

I agree with your observation, and I’ve also met a couple of problematic people in those spaces. Maybe our humble help in this fight is to spread awareness about the importance of mental health, to help the people we personally know, to normalize the idea that we need some psychological stability in order not to hurt our efforts, etc. Perhaps even become mental health professionals so that we build a net of trusted professionals.

I’ve talked in this account about people I know with ASD, NPD, PDD, etc. I just saw a person with NPD/NP-traits go into “remission”. They no longer behave as they did: manipulatively, fearfully, etc. They’re happier and finally building strong connections. I believe it is possible for more people within our circles; not all cases, but some cases.

  • I prefer Interlingua because it is comprehensible right from the start if you speak a Romance language and I imagine it is sufficiently comprehensible for an English speaker. There’s this saying that it is “a language you already know but have never learned”. This is done through more natural semantics and syntax.

About this following part, I’m not sure, but I’ve heard they also call it “the modern Latin”. As I understand it, in order to be decipherable to all Romance languages speakers, it employs old Latin roots (with variations). The cool part, in case this is correct, is that we all know some of these words via science, arts, philosophy… (aqua, caelum, ovum…).

  • My grandparents both lost children. It sounds weird to specify, but they were children from different marriages. They shared this coincidence. My grandmother had this sort of incident with the body; I think my grandfather only received the news. Both developed illnesses now suspected to be caused or worsened by stress: cancer and Alzheimer’s. They were sad people after their losses, very sad people. I do believe it slowly killed them. Just anecdotal evidence of the damage of losing a child…

  • Michael Jackson and Matthew Perry, because both died by overdosing on medication that was meant to help them.

They had sad and hard periods in their life, but they both wanted to be okay and to be happy! They did everything we are told to: reach out, ask for help, follow doctors orders.

…It feels so unfair, they feel like lives interrupted (as many many others). So them, even though I am not a fan.

  • So… I’m not an expert on the brain, but I love to read about mental health, and I’ve learnt that the brain craves that level of stimulation when things aren’t right (outside, inside, or both). It may be an addiction, a cope for depression, hormonal imbalances, etc. Maybe many things at once. But I assure you the solution to boredom, the craves, the feeling of nothing being enough, and more, is not sex (not even relationships, although they might help when you’re in your way to recovery).

Seeking a good health (mental and physical) is all we can do to feel good at the individual level, honestly. All other paths (fame, power, sex, drugs…) are really traps, or that has been my experience and the conclusion I also reach from my readings. I know it’s not easy, not only emotionally but also on other aspects (money, finding the problems, finding solutions or treatments, etc.), but it’s a bet you can place outside the Kurt Cobain option. I really think it’s worth the tries (in plural, probably).
