Well yes, that is how a democracy works. If someone says something stupid, publicly, they get it kicked right back up their ass. I’d rather participate in kicking the stupid back up a person’s ass than wade through pages of a one-way conversation. Maybe that’s just me.

You know what, that’s fair. Its just so often! I sometimes forget that Lemmy is fringe and attracts all kinds of people, and not all of them are polite.
Whenever I see one of these threads, I go inside. “Removed by Mod”. 90% of the time, based on the replies and comments around it, it looks like the removed comment just said some dumb shit or was heavily disagreed with.
Why are we removing people we disagree with from the discussion? There are like eight people were had all their comments stripped from this thread. WTF is going on?
I agree with you definitions and reasoning, I disagree that prudence and decorum don’t serve in some circles.
Prudence and decorum just change to fit the context of the circle. For those who have little to lose but their own life, prudence may take the form of kindness and charity. Decorum is just upholding a tradition within a circle, and traditions form at every level of society to keep what works moving forward.
I would argue that prudence and decorum are good tools to have no matter what circle you move in, you just have to adapt the tools for the job :/
Facebook also allows this to an extent. Or at least it did 5 years ago when I last used facebook. You did have to manually choose who could see the post everytime though. Not nearly as convenient.

I’m honestly impressed at the effort you put into this comment. It’ll be a while before I read through all these links, so I’m just gonna save this comment and come back to it occasionally.
That doesn’t make any sense. Tightness comes from the strength of the muscles. Anyone can do kegels, why the fuck did she get surgery? Did she just make it harder to get in? I have so many questions, and I do NOT want a SINGLE answer.
Yes, Monarchy describes the method of passing rulership. Authoritarian deacribes the style of ruling.
Monarchy describes a type of government in which the leadership generally rests in one person, and that person is generally chosen based on heredity.
Authoritarian describes a style of governing in which the ruler and ruling class have little regard for human rights and freedoms, often employing a type of police state with high levels of control on individual behavior.
A monarchy could be authoritarian, or a monarchy could be fairly liberal and allow a lot of personal freedoms and self rule.
An authoritarian government could be a monarchy, or it could be a dictatorship, oligarchy, or even a type of democracy. Typically individuals don’t like living under authoritarian systems so typically they don’t last long under truly free democracy. But since authoritarians often crack down on opposition, the press, and freedom of assembly it is possible for them sometimes to maintain power across elections.
Gonna be honest, I have no idea what a “tankie” is at this point. I know what it used to mean, but what it means now is beyond me. I’ve had several people give very different definitions, and none of them were “communists that supported Krushchev sending tanks into Hungary”.
…A profit driven government that consolidates power and resources under a single figure-head and their keys to power at the expense of the common people, is an authoritarian state. Or if you’d rather the super simple watered down version: A government that serves itself, and not the people it is supposedly established to govern.
If you have a King who puts into place policy that creates wealth, safety, and comforts for his people; that’s a king, not an authoritarian dictator.
If you have a King who puts into place policy that takes away wealth, safety, and comfort for his people for his own agenda; that’s tyranny, a tyrant, and an authoritarian dictatorship.
This is just how I understand it. Though I am super excited to see your argument otherwise!

Regardless, they should all be fired for not representing the interests of the party. The actual party, not their corpo handlers.
Hmm, that’s interesting. I can’t find that definition for fascism anywhere, but I’m not going to dismiss it just because a few dictionaries don’t align perfectly. I’ll do some digging and see if I can find the historical context and first-use cases.
I am curious what parts of China are your friends from? I mostly hang out with people from Sichuan, with one friend from a village called Urumqi(I have no idea where that is though). China is a big place, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a different regard for the government region-to-region.
I’mma be honest, if I was living in a country where it was common knowledge that slandering the government in anyway got you disappeared, I’d rate them highly on any study put in front of me :/
I know I’m going to have comments telling me I don’t know what I’m talking about, and that’s ok. I’ve enough friends in China, and from China, who have talked about this kind of thing to understand that this graph could represent the feelings of the people, but likely doesn’t.
That is such a shoddy argument. Communism leads to fascism, we have examples. Socialism leads to fascism, we have examples. Monarchy leads to fascism, we have examples. ALL political schemes can lead to fascism, and it has everything to do with the pursuit of power by a few and very little to do with the system of governance itself. Of course Capitalism can lead to fascism; where ever there is fair compromise to be exploited there will be an opportunity for fascism.
Also, I didn’t see any other replies to my comment. Unless you think I’m going to stalk the person I replied to and nag them to reply to me directly, I don’t think that counts :/
So liberals are nazis now? I’ll pen that in under alt-right nationalists, republicans, conservatives in general, democrats…
Like seriously, we are seriously watering down the word Nazi by just labeling everyone we don’t like as a racist supporter of fascism. Besides, how can every blue state and blue city be riddled with Nazis if they are the one’s constantly complaining that our government is devolving into an authoritarian state? RIDDLE ME!!

Who are common people of the memes@lemmy.ml state? Everyone here who is engaging in the community, and that is how public online forums work. “A community” is a broad categorization and does not have a standard structure of organization or common practices. “Public Online Forum” does in fact have a standard set of practices and organization, with precedent set since the 90s. That precedent is that moderators and admins get to choose who gets to participate, thus my original comment.
Any other weirdo accusations or loaded questions you’d like to spitball?
