  • I feel like it will get to the point where AI will start writing code that works but nobody can understand or maintain including AI

Already there, and have been for awhile. In my work we often don’t understand how the AI itself works. We independently test for accuracy. Then we begin trusting results without verification. But, at no time do we really understand the logic of how the AI gets from input to output.

If you are able to explain the requirements to an AI so fully that the AI can do it correctly it would have taken shorter time to program by yourself.

This makes sense for a one-time job. But, it doesn’t make sense when there’s a hundred jobs with only minor differences. For example, the AI writes a hundred AI’s. We kill all but the three to five best models.

  • education about CS/responsible use of technology

The vast majority of what’s been suggested in the OP and comments focuses on the technical: CS and IT. But, no one’s focused on “responsible use of technology”. I’d like to see a course that focused on the morality and ethics of usage.

    Examples of possible classroom topics:

    1. Is it moral and ethical to spread disinformation as a means to “good” end? Is it acceptable to spread truth if the consequences are likely “bad”?

    2. Is it moral and ethical to use generative AI to effectively libel/slander a political opponent? Does it the analysis change if used for advertising?

    3. Is it moral and ethical to pirate media? Does it depend on what’s being pirated? Does it depend on why it’s being pirated?

The "problems with such a course:

    1. It’d require prerequisite of basic philosophy/logic and basic CS/IT. It could be a lot of material to cover. Course construction and presentation needs to be focused, rooted in experience, likely a passion project.

    2. The audience may be too young to think in these terms. A little experience goes a long way towards understanding these topics well enough to have a good faith classroom discussion. I don’t intend ageism, in fact the opposite. I think today’s youth are more capable than when I was such an age: Make it known that the course is “hard”. Those that choose it will excel.

  • Animals I’ve seen on my property: law enforcement, moose, elk, bison, cow, brown bear, black bear, wolf, wild dog

Number of times law enforcement has engaged me for existing while brown since I began to open carry: 0

Bonus: boomers, MAGA, and neolibs are all afraid to engage.

They’ll take my rifle and pistol when they pry them from my cold, dead hands.

It’s an ancient meme rooted in green text brevity, intentionally misused to form another ancient meme, leading through yet another to a fourth.

Appending .exe to whatever states that the contextually implied action was performed. For example:

    payday

    groceries.exe

    steak on sale

    dinner.exe

It’s being used here to obfuscate a folder, as file format was used to obfuscate distribution of the LOIC in the picture of the “It’s dangerous to go alone…” meme.

But, the cake is a lie. It was Morgan Freeman, all along.

I’d like to think they were singing about something so beautiful, it can’t be expressed in words, and it makes your heart ache because of it. I tell you, those voices soared higher and farther than anybody in a grey place dares to dream. It was as if some beautiful bird had flapped into our drab little cage and made these walls dissolve away.

  • I’d never worked out in my life. So, I visited many gyms, found a mom & pop, and hired the trainer free from corporate constraints.

My second session he said, “You might be better off doing bodyweight exercises at home for a few weeks.”

I told him that there was absolutely no way I’d form this habit by myself. I needed him to hold me accountable. I needed a routine.

We did bodyweight exercises at the gym for a few weeks. We set goals of a certain number of push ups, (band assisted) pull ups, sit ups, and (I forgot the name of the hamstring exercise) to “earn” my way back to the machines and free weights.

I can definitely understand how a trainer could get frustrated with an individual. But, a trainer that sends a noob home simply sucks. They should at least provide a referral to another trainer.

All those people moving around for work and errands not making choices. They’re in their routine of doing what they’re supposed to do else some event may disturb their “comfort”. It’s scripted by the capitalists. Or, perhaps they’ve been replaced by a computer.

The wise old woman turned off the dream. No matrix for you. No choice as in the movies.
