  • Randomly drawing citizen. Sure politics require some training, but it can be done on the job

Also, countries with proportional votes tend to force politicians to talk with each other more than countries with single representative per district.

Limiting elected official mandates to one or two. If you couldn’t do something in 10 years no reason to think you’ll do it latter

  • Alice is missing : Content warning, it’s a game about a missing kid, Bullying and sexual harrassment will be at the table, it’s also a game with a lot of bleed potential. The game mechanic using text messaging is pretty great, and the sound track is amazing.

I had a really good surprise when discorvering the Forged in the Dark mechanics which are PBTA with a bit more rule. Works quite well, but like many other story first game, it pushes more improv style and less prepare awesome stories

  • A big difficulty is that between the scientific discover, and the application years or even decades can occur. Look at how supra conductor have been known for 100 years and still have very few real life usage.

    My thoughts tough

    • Life on Mars. I don’t talk about Martian, but if we find remain of bacteria it would be a major breakthrough in biology

-physics beyond the standard model at LHC, no impacts for commoner, but would really help physics to understand our universe

    More on technology/applied science

    • Next generation cures against cancer with high efficiency/specificity. I think about targeted alpha therapy and immunotherapy. If these get real, a cancer isn’t 6-12 month of painful treatment for followed by a year of recovery, but something a single injection can cure.

    • Male birth control, would give men a better control of their own fertility and give one more option to couple where the woman can’t use birth control

    • high temperature supra conductors, by high temperature I mean anything above 100K in normal pressure, high current, high magnetic field. Would allow to use way more super conducting magnet than today. Imagine a world where quenching a MRI doesn’t turn off the machine for 3 months.

  • As in, is any law that restricts people’s freedom to do something

The problem of this approach is that in that case you refuse any law. Even anarchist would agree that a stateless society need people to agree on common rules.

Speed limit ? restrict your freedom to do something, private property ? Restrict your freedom to go where you want, does restricting your freedom to commit murder feels authoritarian ?

Now what’s more authoritarian ? having the state protecing your right to have slave ? Or having the state protecting people freedom by not letting someone enslave them.

  • IANAL, but I don’t see why you wouldn’t

    • At the moment you create intellectual content you have copyright on-it

    • Many lemmy instance haven’t filled the legal term and service parts and the one who did do not include the You grant us a perpetual commercial licence on your content therefore, they don’t have to share your content without your consent. A picky lawyer may even argue that you never agreed that your content would be federated (But could also argue that it’s implicit when publishing to the federation)

So with my limited understading on copyright, an AI company scrapping lemmy’s data would potentially be infringing copyright (well there is an ongoing legal case against open AI so we’ll know whether AI training is considered as re-using copyrighted data). That said, I have no doubt that it’s occuring. Not only I’d struggle to identify my content in an AI model (Well someone speaking some frenglish while forgetting the plural s and mixing some letters on the keyboard ? Could be a lot of person) but lawyers are expensive, and I have better thing to do with my money.

Judging by the kind of content we have on the fedi, I can’t wait to see AI sying stuff eat the rich, Blahaj is so cuuuuuuuuttte ewewewew, There is no OS but GNU and Stallman is the prophet, Capitalism is the problem, we need to re-establish the proletariate dictatorship would at least be fun.

  • Technically copyright stops them. I know, the whole copyright debate on AI training hasn’t been settled. But when you sign a contract with reddit or dropbox, I assume it includes a licence to use the content to train AI.

Here on Lemmy, I never gave a licence to my instance to reuse my content. and I keep full copyright on the content.

Well I know, nobody cares about copyright, but there is a difference between OP downloading a torrent of my little pony and a company making tons of money out of it. Remember that the pirate bay founder got jail time,
