I understand what you are asking, but without some guidance as to your personal preferences, that is asking a lot. For example, you should be able to narrow down some options you like by just looking online. For example:
Once you have some preferences, people here can give you some guidance.
As someone already mentioned there are 2 listed on Chrono24 below $1700 USD.
Ball Fireman Enterprise (NM2098C-S20J-BK)
Not sure yet, still waiting on the bracelet adjustment.
Sorry for the poor picture. Just arrived an hour ago. And still need to take some links out of the bracelet, but wanted to share. It’s absolutely beautiful. I got this used on Chrono24, and was expecting some wear and minor scratches based on the relatively poor pictures that were posted. I literally think this was never worn, I can see absolutely no scratches on the Zaratsu polishing or any signs of wear. Can’t wait to start wearing this. Thanks.
Funny you should mention this. I had a post in the last week where I was discussing my preference for black dial watches… .so had this handy:
Frederique Constant Classics ($800)
Longines Conquest ($1700)
Ball Fireman Enterprise ($1000)
Sinn 556 I ($1600)
Traska commuter ($600)
Oris Big crown ($1500)
Tissot PR 100 ($600)
Hamilton Jazzmaster ($600)
Citizen TSUYOSA ($360)
Grand Seiko SBGA203 ($4800)
Grand Seiko SBGH301 ($6900)
Seiko SARB033 (~$500 used)
Yup, already did. Just wanted to see what others experienced.
Any collection that has a SARB035 is a good one.
Thanks for the response. Were these all from Japan to the US? This is more along the lines of what I’ve heard in the forums.
$6k USD, it was coming from Japan.
You really should look around first and try to make some decisions on things that you like:
leather strap, or metal bracelet?
case: stainless steel, gold, other?
dial color (black, white, green, blue, etc…)
Here are a few options that you may want to consider:
Frederique Constant Classics ($800)
Ball Fireman Enterprise ($1000)
Traska commuter ($600)
Tissot PR 100 ($600)
Hamilton Jazzmaster ($600)
Citizen TSUYOSA ($360)
Seiko SARB033 (~$500 used)
Stunning. Love the band as well. Do you have a before picture?
It would really help if you can give us your budget. But that being said, quartz will be less expensive and the brands you listed all have some good lower end options. Also does your dad have any preferences for watches? Colors? leather band or metal bracelet? That would also help others here make recommendations for you.
As others have already mention forget the appreciation aspect. It will help if you can start by doing some looking around on your own and getting a feel for what you like. Some examples:
Your price range will weed out a lot of options, but there are definitely watches out there you will find. The willingness to look at used will also help, but again, you can find options for new watches in this price rage. Once you have some things you are looking for it will make targeting brands/models easier.
Jomashop has it for $4725. I have bought a few watches there and it was a good experience. Good luck.
Seiko makes solid wathces. This is a good choice. If you are looking for other options, not better, just options. Take a look at Longines, Oris, Frederique Constant in the same price point.
Looks great, not too small. enjoy.
p until then you have dismissed her opinion
Yeah, I definitely hear what you are saying, and I agree, over time I’m sure my tastes will change.
I think a lot of this should come from your own personal preferences. Do you normally wear a watch? If so what types do you like?
There are a number of great watches that have options in that price range, IWC and Omega make fantastic watches. You may want to consider some of these as well:
Glashütte Original
Frederique Constant
Carl F. Bucherer
Jaeger LeCoultre
