When I moved to Los Angeles from N WI people would always ask where I was from; sometimes saying “no” when I said Wisconsin. When I married my wife, somebody at work said it was just so I could get a green card.

I saw it yesterday with just a “4” pointing to the little piece.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Whats your favorite book? EDIT: apologies I don’t respond to your recommendations but I highly appreciate the community hooking me up with good reads. Stay lit with literature. <3
2·16 days agoTwo favorites that I reread several times in my teens/twenties/thirties that I was recently thinking about:
-
“Geek Love” by Katherine Dunn
-
“At the sign of the naked waiter” by Amy Herrick

Which reminds me… The best thing about giving your pet people names, is eventually somebody with that name will become a fixture in your life and then you get to refer to them as “Human Dave” and still call the pet Dave.
I do recall that my coworker’s son got himself wedged between the stove and fridge, so #3 is plausible for Human-Jennifer.
Wife’s friends always requested that she bring me along even though none of the other husbands/partners were coming. When she’d ask why they would just tell her “he’s fun”. I assume, “without being a tiresome asshole” was the unmentioned part.

The funny thing about the green card comment is that my wife is Latina and I’m white as can be, so the person was basing their comment entirely on my accent.
