I’ve been both on different uni projects. Far better being the smart one in a group of idiots and just banging out the work without interference for a good grade. Being the idiot on the smart team was torture.

No appointments yet but sacking Reed and Kyle would indicate he is going to clear out some of the more toxic boys club MPs that Starmer was fond of. Peter Kyle in particular is a great sacking, he’s the one that called the police because a constituent emailed him about Palestine and he compared anyone who opposes online age verification to Jimmy Saville.

I think a lot of the supermarkets have voluntarily IDed energy drinks for quite a while now, so I guess this just means any corner shops or petrol stations that haven’t been doing it will need to start

That Al Carns stuff they link to is just bizarre. “Make everything 10% better” is not a policy. And him talking about amending the legacy act to protect soldiers from being prosecuted for war crimes is sure one quick way to destroy friendly relations with Ireland after they’ve slowly improved over the past two years. Saying it’s stuff they were “cleared for years ago” puts him well to the right of even David Cameron who apologised for the British army’s actions on Bloody Sunday. I don’t understand the establishment media’s obsession with glazing him constantly, he’s clearly a bit dim and very dangerous to put in power.

There seems to be a mix of briefings going out suggesting Burnham will make Miliband the chancellor, keep Reeves to appease the bond markets, or tack further right and appoint Mahmood. It will be the first real signal of which version of Burnham we’re getting I guess.
Now is the perfect time to be testing his credentials, before a leadership contest gets underway. That’s the whole point, so party members and MPs can choose who best represents them. He keeps u-turning on everything and he’s veered towards the right during this campaign quite a lot, including going back on trans rights and endorsing the home secretary’s immigration reforms. I don’t think left-wing Labour members should just roll over and take it, especially anyone from the groups he’s willing to throw under the bus to gain power.

“Bullying works” is one of those really nasty, regressive takes that always shocks me when it appears in otherwise progressive spaces

I have a sighthound and although mine isn’t ex-racer since he’s not a purebred greyhound I know a lot of greyhound adopters whose dogs were found dumped in ditches left to die after getting injured racing, or abandoned because they were too slow, or even with scars from having cigarettes stubbed out on them as a punishment for losing a race. It’s a disgusting industry and it’s shameful that Labour want to act as though it’s something all working class people support. There’s a great documentary by the Irish public broadcaster RTÉ about the industry there but the same principles apply everywhere else. Sighthounds are such sensitive and sweet dogs that are usually far happier sleeping all day than racing.
There is a bank in the UK that used employee bank balances to prove they didn’t need a pay rise last year, which they were able to do because banking with them was a condition of employment
When I was in school they once checked everyone’s phones to make sure we had installed Twitter and followed the school’s accounts for each department. That was about a decade ago so it’s probably TikTok or something by now.

Nothing better than him being scolded on RTÉ a few years back for saying “up the ra” for £87

If Labour had any sense they’d be introducing proportional representation, but I suspect the right of the party would rather lose to Reform than enter coalition with the Greens
Depends where you’re from really, and how thick an accent you have. I spent a weekend decorating my first house accidentally talking in nothing but innuendo until it was pointed out to me that I should never go into a DIY shop, obvious gay that I am, and run around asking for cock.

I’m not convinced Burnham would be much better either. He had a fairly Blairite run as a minister and, given how open he is about his political ambitions, I would be worried about another bait-and-switch like Starmer’s brief tack to the left during the leadership campaign. He is at least more charismatic than Starmer, but so are most people to be fair.

Got expedition 33 running on the steam deck (with some amount of tweaking to make it run smooth - valve should not be marking that game as verified) and it has absorbed every moment of free time I have. Fully understand the hype now. Apart from that, Outer Wilds had been sitting in my library since the summer sale untouched and I’ve finally gotten into it, and Dispatch was really fun and beautifully animated.
Same here. There’s a few set hours of the day we have to be there but otherwise so long as you get your 40 hours in over the course of the week you’re alright. In all the office jobs I’ve worked there wasn’t really such a thing as “being late” or even being late back from lunch
I love mine. It’s pretty unobtrusive but there’s a ton of open-source applications available on the store. Probably the most similar to the original Pebble (besides the new pebbles of course) right down to the MIP display. Tried a pinetime but it’s very limited by comparison and an IPS screen on a smartwatch is a terrible idea.

Are we just copying the ‘free speech zones’ from the US during the Iraq war now?
I really don’t like this route the UK has went down the past few years. The Tories cracking down on protests, people being arrested for holding “not my king” signs or even just blank pieces of paper in the vicinity of the king, and now all this bullshit from Labour to crack down on pro-Palestinian protestors.

Honestly it does feel like he’s campaigning for them at this stage. I don’t think anyone is going to like this policy, even the far-right who he is trying to appease with this aren’t going to trust a mandatory government app on their phones.

When I was 5, then I seemingly got better as a teenager and didn’t need an inhaler for about ten years. I got covid in my early twenties and got re-diagnosed after it ruined my lungs. And I do mean re-diagnosed, they wouldn’t prescribe me new inhalers from my original diagnosis after ten years of not taking them and I had to get a peak flow prescribed and do the tests over the phone since we couldn’t do it in person thanks to the pandemic.
Could she let the Northern Ireland secretary know, so that we won’t have far-right ethnic supremacy marches forced down streets here? Since he’s been talking about compromising with them all weekend
