I have that (Prosopagnosia) to some extent, and it’s kind of the opposite. Everyone looks different and nobody reminds me of anyone. When people discuss family photos saying things like “don’t they look like their father”, I get nothing.

My son was in a big stage show when he was 12, and we all went to watch. I struggled working out which one he was until he spoke / sang.

Seeing your kids on stage is magic—my son has been in various professional and amateur roles since he was 10. He can act and sing, which opened up musicals too. Having several aspects to performance has definitely helped him. Actor musicians can be in great demand, but since there are few (compared to actor / singer / dancer), I don’t think there are as many opportunities as there might be.

If your kids are ok with the acting side, definitely encourage them.

On a related note, I was also involved in the building of a new theatre at my kids school, and I tried to convince them to not restrict it to the music and drama departments. No matter what field you’re going to go into, being confident in front of an audience (even just presenting on your own subject) is a valuable skill that theatre can teach. I’m now grey enough to not worry about speaking to an audience. I wish I’d had that confidence earlier in my career.

I started volunteering at a children’s theatre. Just finished the third of three production runs, seeing kids from 8 to 18 astound audiences with performances that surpass professional productions I’ve seen. It’s renewed my belief in the power of the arts to change lives, when my whole training and professional life has been in the sciences.

Atheist really means a definite belief that there is no god. Agnostic is less ‘strong’, asserting that it’s impossible to know how the universe was created and whether or not divine beings exist.

This is not a scientific result, but when I’ve seen friends / family with modern-looking android devices, the UI seems laggy or unresponsive compared to my experience on iOS. They often have to try 2 or 3 times to get the swipe / tap they were after. I find iOS pretty much always does what I’m expecting, and even when it doesn’t, I can put it down to me missing the edge of the screen / icon.

I’m curious what ‘features’ I’m missing by sticking with iOS though?

It’s a great analysis, and I don’t disagree with anything you said (mostly because you’re better informed than I am). But you nailed it with “Why would I need this? I don’t know yet.” It should all be driven by need—the fact their are more options is great, but doesn’t mean they should be used just because they’re there… For many hobbyists, ease of access and speed to get started is the main driver, and for those cases, pre-built boards are the answer.

I remember talking to a car manufacturer in the early 2000s who said it would be relatively easy to make cars to a custom length / load space. But they tend to make specific models because if you give people too much choice, they get paralysed and don’t choose anything.

I suspect it’s not quite that simple but the principle seems sound.

I’m going to get back to watching that later.
