  • That would suck because I dropped 40 dollars on the over for 34, 33, 32, and 31 wins (10 bucks each). That being said, it’s only 40 bucks and you only bet money your willing to lose. Still, coming that close and falling short would be salt in the wounds.

Selfish reasons aside, I’m not really focused on wininng. I’m more concerned with our overall progress. Seeing where our guys got better and what parts look promising.

  • It was obvious, but we can’t expect instant gratification. Spurs are running the same offense they’ve been running for 2 years now and this was day 1 of trying to integrate him into the offense. It’s going to take time.

On top of that, Wemby may be the best player we’re trying to develop, but he is not the only player we’re trying to develop. For instance, it should surprise nobody that Tre Jones (starting his 4th season as an NBA point guard) is better at running the offense than Jeremy Sochan (56 games last year and you can count on one hand how many games he’s run point at an NBA level) but Jeremy clearly got the job because PAFTO believes it’ll be the best move in the long run. But 1 game has people wanting to end that plan, so it’s a bit ridiculous.

  • Tre Jones was great last night, but I want to take everyone back to October 21, 2022.

Spurs vs. Pacers. A game we won by 3 points, but at one point, we were up by 19 points. We dominated that game but towards the end when Indiana started pressuring, the team, with Tre Jones as their starting guard, could not consistently and successfully get the ball past half court.

I don’t bring this up to slander Tre Jones. I bring it up to highlight the difference in his ability after one season as our starting guard because last night, Tre got pressured a lot, yet was able to bring the ball up with minimal effort. Guys need time to learn and the only way you learn is by getting reps against the top talents.

Sochan isn’t starting over Tre because he’s a better point guard. Sochan is starting over Tre because (given his size and defensive capabilities) he has the potential to be a much greater weapon for us in the long run.

To paraphrase Sochan, “Sometimes, you’ll see it and think ‘This looks great!’ and other times you’ll see it and think ‘this is trash’ but it’s all a learning experience”
