  • Shit. I was more worried in 2016.

He didn’t leave office peacefully, but he still left.

That’s how human brains work, we avoided the worst case scenario and life moved on. So we run into the same danger, but the response is lowered.

Which is why Dem turnout was so low this time

I’ve been saying this would happen for a long time, lots of people were.

The difference is the people running the DNC are just the people who can raise the most money. And the people with psychology degrees rarely have money as a priority.

We need to start having a party run by sociologists, psychologists, hell even go back to lawyers

The current strategy of 80s go-go Reaganites who only care about money ain’t working.

  • I lived thru 9/11 and 2016.

For over 20 years everytime a republican became president I’ve been told we’ll never have another election.

Maybe this time the wolf is real, but it’s a basic part of human psychology that more and more people will stop having a fear response everytime they hear “wolf”.

If we really don’t have an election in 2028, we’ll have a civil war before 2032. Maybe what comes after will be better than what we have now.

It sucks to live in interesting times, but that’s what’s happening.

This is literally the day after the election, don’t fucking tell me it’s too late to plan how to fix shit for 2028

  • I’ll never understand why people think the people running the DNC aren’t total fucking liars that will say anything for money.

    Beating trump isn’t hard.

But beating him while grifting a billion dollar campaign funded by the people your voting base hates is very difficult.

Unfortunately when confronted with the choice, the DNC has shown us three elections straight that they’ll always pick money over votes.

So we either need to leave the party or replace leadership.

If we don’t do either 2028 will be exactly the same as the last three elections.

  • It really is Lemmy wide too

I saw them start up yesterday because I browse by new and all, and it was accounts from all types of random small instances that had been created in the last week. Then all started spamming at the same time.

What I dont understand is why someone would go they all that hassle to make 100s of accounts to all spam the same thing in a language that the vast majority of people who see it can’t understand.

My only guess is it’s like how people will reply with Chinese language charectors talking about things in China, thinking that the person they replied to is paid by the Chinese government and would get in trouble? It’s the only time I see Chinese characters anyways.

Which never really made sense to me to begin with, but maybe someone is super deep into conspiracies and think by doing this all the Chinese actors won’t be able to visit Lemmy?

Shits almost weird enough for me to translate it, but it’s almost definitely going to be stupid bullshit so I haven’t tried.

  • No 10 is said to have been on alert for more than a week about an imminent statement from the ICC that its pre-trial chamber judges have accepted the request of the ICC prosecutor, Karim Khan, to issue arrest warrants for war crimes committed in Gaza.

The request for arrest warrants was issued on 20 May against Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant, the defence minister, as well as three Hamas leaders, including Yawar Sinwar and Ismail Haniyeh, the now-deceased head of the Hamas political bureau.

Welp, looks like all the “what about Hamas?” People are going to need a new excuse.

  • This is why it’s important people understand the details of the civil war.

What lead to it wasn’t just “slavery” it’s that the South wanted the federal government to go into Northern states and bring back anyone that was suspected of being an escaped slave back to the South. Basically they wanted federal law enforcement to go on slave raids.

They won’t be happy with shitty laws in their own states, they want to force everyone else to follow them.

And this time the SC is on their side, and if we won’t fix that, we need to be ready for the bullshit they’ll keep pulling.

  • I wouldn’t say “perfect” she did what an average American would be able to do it’s just impossible to not compare her to Biden and trump.

Mr Bean would look like the orator of his generation (what we used to say about Biden 40 years ago) if we’re only comparing him to Biden and trump.

We can’t just ignore Kamala’s faults, if we do the only pressure she’ll have the next four years is to move to the right.

Don’t get complacent, the fascists won’t.

So I’m fine with saying Kamal did well, fine with saying she didn’t great even.

But we should never say a candidate is perfect.
