People have been organizing against our government for decades. How many generations before it’s acceptable to provide care for your family? You are right if it can’t be done you should not have kids. That’s why I havent. I also never defended killing people. I simply said some people don’t have an option but to join military if they want health care for their family and thats a fact.

All too familiar with most of the atrocities although it’s hard to keep up. How am I delusional though? Do you live in the USA? Do you know how hard full family coverage with no deductable is to get? Do u know what it costs to keep a child with birth defects alive? Some people would pay any price. This whole comment thread started about how some people don’t really have a choice but to join the military.

Are you really going to talk about the bombing in Korea followed by the atrocities in Vietnam? Are you familiar with Korean war crimes and anti communist efforts in Vietnam? Ever heard of the phong nhi massacre? My point being is nobodies hands are clean. Most soldiers aren’t after blood, they just need to feed their family. I might be a little more clued in than you are …

I said bush sounds like a lefty due to how much the Overton window has shifted. Are u blind to the right wing nationalism that has taken the USA? There are other jobs in not saying that. I’m not in the military. I also don’t have health care, and when I had jobs that offered the family plans were incredibly expensive. The military is sometimes just the only way your going to get healthcare for you kids, especially if you don’t have good education or other skills. I’m a mechanic and it’s hard to get a GOOD family plan without giving half your salary for it.

See that’s the thing. Only puts YOU at risk not others. I’m talking about people who want to raise a family and aren’t from a wealthy family or incredibly lucky. I don’t want to make that call so I don’t have kids and therefore haven’t been basically forced to join the military. I’m not talking about having principals I’m talking about having family health 0 out of pocket I don’t get why people are conflating this with some sort of military support when I just said somebody is ignorant for saying fuck everybody in the military, as if its a choice for some of them.

So have I dumb ass, on both sides of US invasions. My mother is from Venezuela, and my father is ashamed of what he had to do to provide his children with a better life. That’s not what my original comment was about, I was stating that in the United States if you are poor and want health care and the opportunity to provide for you family your option is the military. Must be nice to come from a country where you have a choice, your privilege is showing.

Ok and where do you live buddy? It is ignorant to act like everybody in the military is there by choice. When the choice is to let your family starve and die of preventable disease, or join the war machine do you see that as a choice? Is letting your family die an option you keep on the table? 2 of my siblings would not be here today if not for my father’s health coverage in the military. Not everybody grew up in well to do families that had options, some took the only opportunities they had and to day that’s a choice is pure ignorance. This helps your children have a choice, instead of a grave stone. And the fascist movement in USA really has taken off in the last decade, go watch a George bush talk when he was president. He sounds like a lefty by todays standards with how far the Overton window has shifted. And no I am not justifying the endless stream of “military operations” the USA has partook in, but to compare what’s going on today to what military action looked like 20 years ago is just silly.

Most people are more worried about their immediate family than strangers. But yes I do care, and fortunately it’s not a call I have had to make but I literally couldn’t have kids if I wanted to unless I joined the military today. Too bad the echo chamber here has never had to make a tough call! Maybe they could relate if they had to struggle and grow up poor.

Not every body joined to carry out a fascist regimes whims, some joined before and are contracted for years. Some people have no option but the military if they want to have health care for their kids. It’s an unfortunate truth that many good people are in the military because it’s the only way to provide for their family, and a blanket fuck all military members statement shows just how ignorant and stupid you are.

I’m in northeast and just drove around from VT to ri yesterday. In mass gas was 3.30 gal, ri was similar +/- 10 cents depending on station. VT seems closer to 3.10 or so. Thank God the warm weather is coming so I can put the damn car away and ride my single cylinder motorcycle that gets 75mpg if I am easy with my right wrist… Also very glad I sold my SUV last year and got a little Impreza cuz that alone has saved me a couple hundred a month during the snow season where I have no choice but to roll in the cage.

  • While I see your point, I will say there is no such thing as freedom of movement in any city anymore. Every business you pass, every intersection, every few street lamps (depending on ur city) will be monitored by camera. Every major roadway is camera monitored in or out of a city (check ur local 411 traffic cams). In any urban area trying to minimize your contribution to mass surveillance is in vain, it’s already been taken care of by the govt and businesses and what we consume! It just seems to be a product of being in a technologically advanced society. What needs to happen is more restrictions on those performing the mass surveillance, although I doubt they’d listen even if our govt tried to restrict them.

  • This is a flawed argument. Your walking around with a phone in ur pocket, they don’t need your camera to track you. That and just about every intersection has a camera on it. The network to track you has so many more data points than my ring camera. They track every penny you spend, where you work, where you buy groceries, the porn you watch. Yea my camera is contributing to mass surveillance, but as long as you own a cell phone getting rid of your ring camera isn’t going to help you the way you might think. If you want to stop mass surveillance you need to boondock on public lands. Once you own anything and get connected to the internet, it’s game over!
