Ni, but potato vodka is a bit oily.

Shaken allows to make a better mixed vodka martini with potato vodka (the one available when Flemming wrote Bond).
Stirred is better with grain vodka or gin.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How do you stay motivated after relapsing from an addiction?
5·2 months agoJust don’t mention the pron part if it’s illegal and you are affraid. AFAIK masturbation occurs with all hominids, and many mammalians. So discussing an addiction with a medical professional should stay secret within the doctor-patient privilege.
But… Make sure it is an addiction. Does it prevent you from living ? Are you organizing your life around it? Do you rub it off to the point of damaging skin (on more than one occasion) ? Does it replace available sex with a willing partner ? These are the real questions you need to assess.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Can things exist without anyone being aware of their existence?
2·2 months agoFor me it’s just a dictionary trick.
Old definition was defining Art as transforming nature for the purpose of a human.
usual definition is something human made that someone finds pretty.
Contemporary art definition is making something that makes people react / feel. Performance art went all the way to saying that what the artist felt made it art.
If you hide it on purpose, the hiding itself may be contemporary art (similar to Once upon a time in Shaolin bu Wu Tang Clan). A hidden piece by an unknown artist may be considered art according to the performance art demonstration.
So… Choose your definition, similar as the sound of a tree falling in an empty forest (is sound a pressure wave or the brain processed signal?)
Edit: linguists will just say art is whatever sufficient people believe it means.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How do you stay motivated after relapsing from an addiction?
31·2 months agoFirst make sure it is an addiction and not a healthy habit you have trouble accepting.

If it is an addiction, seek professional help. But quitting gets easier with practice.

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•The best answer to "when did Star Trek get woke?"English
5·2 months agoAh yes, I heard that theory about shoulderless tunics.
More seriously, dresses are a European middle-age evolution of the tunic for fashionable noblewomen. The whole gender-specific is kind of built in the concept of the word.

Futurology@futurology.today•World’s first 100% battery-electric cruise ship unveiled with 1,856 passenger capacity.English
2·4 months agoIt’s just a concept. If someone is interested they’ll start thinking more about it.
But reality is hard against this to work. I don’t see ports having the electrical power to charge the batteries, and ships don’t generally have a use case for charging the batteries on diesel.
Single use would be trying to market “green” whale watching ships or “emission free port call” to ease getting autorisation with touristic cities closing in on port air pollution.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•In your language, how do you describe butch and femme lesbians?
1·4 months agoFrance:
Butch is now seen as more polite in younger / woke(*) circles. Camionneuse (truck drivers) is old and derogatory even though still in use.
Femmes are fem, a younger word. NO old word AFAIK. I guess previous generations didn’t care as much / were aroused.
Lesbiennes. Older / derogative term was “broutte minou” ~ kitty grazer (and sounds about as cringy in both languages, definitely the older generations were aroused).
(*) I mean that in its original / positive use.
Edit : for men mostly English words are used (gay, top/bottom, bear/cub…)

Martinis are normally stirred.
Except… Vodka martini made with potato vodka which is more oily and was the one widely available when Flemming wrote Bond. So you need to shake it for the mix to work properly.
