Every “progression” made since Lisp has been other languages adding features to (partially but not quite completely) do stuff that could already be done in Lisp, but with less well implemented (though probably with probably less parentheses).

Sure, but you can also have contrast with a dark background that isn’t constantly shooting a third of the photons your screen can generate (or more, since in some screens blue pixels are the largest), and the most energetic at that, at your eyes… high contrast themes tend to have a black background (not a gray one like most dark themes) precisely as a way to maximise contrast…
(It was even worse when we sat all day in front of a fucking particle accelerator, of course; frankly, as much as I loved CRTs’ ability to work with multiple resolutions I don’t know how we didn’t all end up going blind…)

Much more than half the users are bots.
When you send someone a message in some messaging system which has read confirmations (like whatsapp, for instance, or outlook), and the message is marked as read (or you receive a message read confirmation, or whatever equivalent your messaging system has), but they never actually reply, which often implies that they don’t want to (or can’t be bothered to, same difference). Whatever the case they probably don’t have as much respect for you as you have for them.
As a metaphor I suppose it can also mean doing something for someone without getting anything in return, even though reciprocation would normally be expected.
