I think the “point of this show” (at least to me), is that no one is perfect, everyone is capable of both good and bad things and that people should not be judged by their worst actions.
Ted was almost ridiculously optimistic and positive, yet snapped Nate’s head off when he tried to slide his suggestions under Ted’s hotel door.
Rebecca started off as a vindictive bitch, using Ted to get her revenge but she had enough compassion to help him through his panic attacks, even before she apologised at the end of season 1.
Roy hated Jamie and refused to coach him but he was the one to go to him and comfort him after his father abused him in the changeroom scene.
I think it was all summed up nicely in the final diamond dogs scene where they talked about how nobody is perfect and we should just be striving to be better and asking for help when we need it.
