1·1 month agoPotentially, but they don’t use water straight from the ground/river these days it’s all purified and minerals readded anyway. That said Molson-Coors isn’t good for UK brewing.

Technology@beehaw.org•Report: Nvidia to acquire AI model repository Hugging Face for $13 billion
11·2 months agoOh don’t worry you can use them for whatever you want… For a price of course.
A podcast is basically a blog with RSS feed where all the entries are audio files. So in theory you could do it that way it’s probably be a bit of a job to set up, then serving the files would take a fair bit of bandwidth (if it gets even moderately popular), encoding to something like OPUS format might help if playback support in podcast players is widespread (MP3, AAC or OGG Vorbis might be a better fallback.
The audio editor I would choose is Audacity it’s been the gold standard for a free audio recorder/editor for years.
Careful with hosted podcasting services terms and conditions they can be restrictive with what you can do with your podcast later.

United Kingdom@feddit.uk•UK minister defends changes to student loans as criticism mountsEnglish
7·5 months agoShe said that, for most people who want to go to university, “you couldn’t get a commercial loan because you don’t have the credit history, you don’t have the collateral, you certainly wouldn’t be able to get something which you could write off if you don’t hit certain repayment thresholds”.
So exploiting people who have no choice then, nice.

On AliExpress: 12.7mm USB 2.0 DVD/CD-ROM Case , IDE/ PATA to SATA Optical Drive External Enclosure For Laptop https://a.aliexpress.com/_Evga3Y0
Looks like a high density IDE connector.
I’d shop around for similar products, not sure if you need USB, SATA or just big IDE.

Technology@lemmy.ml•'Godfather of AI' says the technology will create massive unemployment and send profits soaring — 'that is the capitalist system'
1·1 year agoI’m not trying to change anyone’s mind, I’m just putting forward my observations, it’s clear you have your own views and that’s fine.
Let’s just agree to disagree then.

Technology@lemmy.ml•'Godfather of AI' says the technology will create massive unemployment and send profits soaring — 'that is the capitalist system'
1·1 year agoThere is so much vested interest though, capitalism has already been past the point of failure, and then measures were introduced to prolong it’s life, easy credit, moving away from the gold standard, others to numerous to mention, moving us from a monetary system based on tangeable wealth/assets to our current situation where it all hangs on hype and speculation. But again supply and demand only works if there’s demand, if nobody has any money then demand drys up.
Again he’s not pointing the finger, he’s merely saying it’s working as designed, either way AI is one of the current hypes propping up the system so he’s unlikely to point the finger there too.

Technology@lemmy.ml•'Godfather of AI' says the technology will create massive unemployment and send profits soaring — 'that is the capitalist system'
1·1 year agoHe isn’t quoted as saying that he thinks this is terrible though. To me it reads as “that’s how capitalism works” in the same way the industrial revolution rewrote the rule book etc. There will need to be a market adjustment people will lose their jobs but the system will survive. Whereas I think it’ll be such a seismic shift in a short time the whole thing will cease to function.

0·1 year agoHe doesn’t say it’s a problem, just that that’s how it works. My prediction is it will collapse under its own weight.

UK Politics@feddit.uk•Constituents say Deputy PM Angela Rayner 'had to go' - BBC News
1·1 year agoThe media witch-hunt worked then.
I mean yes she probably has done something wrong, maliciously or “honest mistake guv” I don’t know, is the media the best place to get facts about it to judge for yourself, no. Even official enquiries are not particularly trustworthy these days.
The bigger issue is why somebody so central to government was allowed to screw up this badly, it reflects poorly on the party. Which is exactly why the media is running with it.

Technology@lemmy.ml•'Godfather of AI' says the technology will create massive unemployment and send profits soaring — 'that is the capitalist system'
0·1 year agoHow? If everyone loses their jobs nobody has any spare income. Therefore nobody buys anything they don’t need and cut back what they do need to the bone. Share price tanks because everyone stopped buying stuff. Capitalism collapses. The whole thing only works when there’s a customer, credit has been filling the income gap for years but if there’s no hope of repayment then nobody will get credit. I just hope it takes the tech giants long that I and the people I care about don’t have to deal with the fallout.
