It was in fashion at the time. The all important question of “Do you fart with that ass?” was finally silenced for one glorious year.
I said good things about China again didn’t I and that made you insecure or mad so you checked my profile.

Technology@lemmy.ml•Up to 100 gigawatts: China unveils its high-power microwave weapon arsenal
6·16 days agoDefence scientists say the technology could threaten low Earth orbit satellite networks such as Starlink at an extremely low cost.
Low Cost? It’s 100 Gigawatts. And the inverse square law is still a thing. In fact it’s the thing, the reason most sci-fi weapons can’t exist until we get infinite exponential power sources.
This will be amazing at missile defense and anti-air, however, thoroughly eliminating any reasonably distanced threat.

World News@lemmy.ml•Iran has shot down 30 US Reaper drones, US official says
131·18 days agoEach MQ-9 Reaper costs around $14.5 million USD¹. This includes parts currently under 100% economic sanctions that are only sourced in China, so the real cost to replace is almost definitely higher at this point. Rare Earth Metals ain’t the expensive or rare part.
As a fun experiment why don’t we see what took down these drones that cost as much as a brand new elementary school and all teacher salaries for a year;
Each Shahed drone costs $15,000-$50,000 depending on the model these killed at least two.
Each S-400 9M96E Missile costs around $300,000. These are the short range missiles that would be used by Iran’s air defense for the low flying Reapers.
Misgah recoilless rifle ($150,000-$1,000,000) (This is confirmed at least 1 reaper down.
The Russian Verba system (~$200k per missile)
So basically the max cost on Iran’s side is $30 million USD, though realistically this is likely closer to $10-15 million USD.
The max cost on the US side is approximately 45 elementary schools or around $450 million USD.
Or in other words, this is why Americans are so much more poor on average than Iranians and other “third world” or “developing nation” citizens. Did you know fewer than 2/3ds of Americans own their own home? That’s fucking unheard of in Iran. There’d be actual riots and not US led ones overnight if it ever got that bad.
¹There are no official numbers except bundled (staff, weapons resupply, support cost, actual cost of vehicle) fact sheet propaganda numbers.

World News@lemmy.ml•Communist Party Marxist Kenya: Khamenei’s Legacy Will Outlive US Imperialism [CPMK]
191·22 days agoDon’t worry, I too remember being 13 and discovering atheism for the first time.
If you want to eliminate religion then you need to improve the material conditions of the proletariat. If you want to improve the material conditions of the proletariat you must first resist and overthrow imperialist control.
Without revolution religion flourishes as a release valve for the proletariat, and those in power will seek to control that release valve as an alternative.
This does not mean religion is the enemy, the same way a gun is not an enemy.
The human right abuses in Xinjiang are a fact.
It’s responding to the persistent propaganda narrative that modernizing poverty-stricken rural areas of China like Tibet and Xinjiang is somehow a “cultural genocide.” By providing education, modern technology, and resources to these areas, it’s been argued that the people in these areas are somehow lesser for joining the 21st century.
Also the criticism of China daring to increase its electricity consumption as it raises 800 million people out of extreme poverty, instead of cutting back on energy usage like Europe is (ignoring that China still uses less than 1/10th the energy usage per capita, 1/2 per capita in rich areas.)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Update: My landlord served me a 3 day notice to cure violation or move out over keeping my window open. It's not on my lease. It's not a violation.
132·24 days agoWanting a window open and defending themselves against people defending a landlord does not make a person antisocial. Even if they were antisocial defending the person threatening to essentially statistically kill them by attacking OP isn’t the right move, ever.

144·24 days agoI’ve giving examples of a character archetype because it’s useful for quickly categorizing behavior. You’re defending a landlord who is threatening to make someone homeless over fresh air.

164·24 days agoOP has more empathy than their landleech, as their landleech is a subhuman psychopath who has given up all of their façade of humanity. If you think otherwise then you’d be the first to die in a horror movie, you’d be the person that hides their zombie bite, and you’d the one to help an alien invasion annihilate humanity in hopes they’d spare you.
“Hurr durr why doesn’t someone just make a nuclear reactor. What’s stopping them? I see lots of talk and blueprints about making this nuclear reactor but no one seems to want to be the brave one to just do it. What’s that about? Why do people need to plan things and get other people on board for things?”
CachyOS is what Mint thinks it is, and could be if they didn’t go the debian route. It’s practically as easy as Mint, infinitely more performant, and likely runs whatever you want (though switching to appimage packages instead of deb packages for random internet software does indeed feel worse.)

Programming@programming.dev•Modding a 20-year-old game to make it even better
13·26 days agotl;dr he added full-party exp-share to Pokémon Fire Red. It’s a good blog post on how to mod games in general, or at least games where you have access to some form of source code for it. Nothing ground breaking, but more like a neat little ‘you go little buddy, you go explore programming in a fun way’ kinda thing.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why do Asexual (Aroace) people get discriminated?
4·30 days agoThere’s really not, no more than any other LGBTQIA+ persuasion. Every single thing you just listed goes for every single sexuality, i.e. ‘spaghetti’s only straight until it gets wet,’ or 'I can fix her (referring to lesbians); every experiences that. That doesn’t mean your experience isn’t valid, but let’s face it, if that’s your complaint welcome to being accepted as a real human.
Ace and aroace most often, in my experience, just get left out. Because like you wouldn’t bring an atheist to debate the finer points of faith, it’s not really great to bring an aroace to debate the finer points of sexuality.

25·30 days agoIf I ask what type of sandwich you like eating and you say you’ve never wanted a sandwich and don’t eat them, I might stop including you in discussions about sandwiches.
This is nothing against people that simply have no desire for a sandwich, but compared to those that like their sandwiches with meat, without meat, or with imitation meat, there’s really not much to discuss when we’re talking about sandwiches.

This will be controversial given the “that’s not true communism according to my 170 year old theory book” crowd that sometimes permeates western leftists like a disgusting plague; but Xi Jinping. He’s released 6 or so books, he has a literal Doctorate in Marxism, and has documented China’s success and failures in its strive towards communism, including very good answers for every single criticism western Do-Nothing marxists have towards China’s Dengist reforms and their incredible economic success.
