I think I’ve been reading carbon nanotube hype for at least 15 years now, so are they actually embedded in any current technology changing our lives or is this like self-driving vehicles (that don’t kill people) and fusion power where it’s always “on the horizon” but never quite manifesting?
Tech has to get a whole lot more secure, reliable, and personalized before I would consider buying a robot. I want to know my robo-butler isn’t going to report me to the thought police if I grumble about my job or my city council. I want to know that common-sense features and updates won’t be paywalled behind a subscription model. I want to know I won’t have to sit through ads every 2 minutes while it does its chores. I want to know that yet another massive data breach won’t provide criminals with an interior map of my house and images of every friend and family member who’s ever visited my home.

I do like pineapple in Asian chicken/rice dishes, but I was raised on beef burgers topped with pickle, ketchup, cheese, lettuce, tomato and bacon and that’s my burger comfort zone.
The snake-oil part is solved by prohibiting scientifically unproven claims. Laudanum was sold as a cure-all; obviously as a society we don’t want to allow opiates to be marketed for everything from allopecia to zika.
Mexico’s pharma industry works like this to some extent. You can walk into a .mx pharmacy and get yourself antibiotics, boner pills, a CPAP machine, hormonal birth control, and much much more without a doctor’s note. Purity doesn’t seem to be a big problem; you generally don’t have to worry that it might be 10% opium or whatever. International travelers can bring up to 3 months’ personal supply back to the U.S., which would be tricky if border officials’ drug-sniffing dogs routinely flagged contaminant drugs of concern in medication inspections.
Healthy people have a resilient emotional support network and that can mean different numbers for different people - but 15 channels of commercial messaging bots is not that

Lots and lots of people, actually. Many identify with the tough-talkin’ images being projected, believing it’s just what the world needs and that the magic sorting hat will assign them to the privileged class when the dust settles.
The word “love” is used in a number of distinct senses. Some aren’t a matter of volition - I love a nice glass of Merlot or a mug of ale with dinner, and I can choose day-to-day whether or not to indulge that taste - but I didn’t choose the preference itself. It just is.
In another sense, love is measured in the time and effort you spend on someone’s happiness. If I say I love my kids but I don’t ever make time to bond with them and demonstrate what it means to be the parent they want and need - then yes we should question if that’s really love.
