  • I do pulling exercises (back muscles), reverse crunches or leg raises (lower abs), and hip thrusts (glutes)! Also: stretches to open up the chest, neck stretches, lunges to stretch the front hips (hip flexors).

I try to do these every day or every other day. It doesn’t take much time. I’m not trying to build anything. It’s about good habits and maintaining strength in muscles that tend to weaken with prolonged sitting. All I really need is a resistance band - which has the added perk of being able to bring it on vacation:)

  • No monologue for me. Just image and sound. For example, when thinking about a situation, I’ll just imagine it as a moving picture, but there’s no internal narration to it. I don’t think in sentences. I just think about the image or feeling and then process it somehow.

I’ve discussed this topic with others before, and they don’t really get it lol. Well it’s equally weird for me to think about it their way, constantly having an internal monologue.

  • I think therapy is always a good option depending on the person. But answering for myself, no therapy needed. To echo another comment, I don’t really get upset by patient cases, it’s more the coworkers that get to me. It does take a certain type of person to work in the ED. Like you need to be a person of action, you can’t be sensitive, can’t get hung up on small details, just do what you can, no regrets. Some aren’t cut out for it, but they usually don’t last that long and end up transferring to another unit.

Idk how long she’s been working in the ED, but if it’s been years now then she’s probably fine🤞🏻lol. And IMO it’s pretty normal for healthcare workers in general to not like talking about work when off the clock. But if she’s ranting, then it’s nice to have a listener even if you can’t fully understand. ;)
