  • Because centrism represents opposition to any upset to the status quo. Centrism is less about social or fiscal or foreign policy and more about whether the next administration represents a major shift away from policies traditionally implemented. I’d reckon Gilded Age centrists opposed the forty-hour workweek and workplace safety standards until those things became the norm. No research done. Just a hunch there.

Change represents instability, and instability represents a need to change one’s behaviors to succeed in the system in place. It’s not about right or wrong or left or right. It’s all about not changing the rules of the game. It’s laziness disguised either as an unwillingness/inability to choose a side OR “bOtH SiDeS!!!1!!1!1!”

A failure to choose is still a choice. One absolves himself of no responsibility by keeping in place the evils that make our society function in its current state knowing there is a way to run it without said evils. It’s a knowingness that the transition to better outcomes will be painful in the meantime, so to avoid ripping off the band aid, they bury their heads in the sand and pretend each side is just as bad as the other.

  • Running on the assumption this is authentic and heterosexual, Anon’s parents massively dropped the ball creating an adult with no will to fly the coop. But then to cut them off cold turkey is totally fucked up. Anon is now permanently 15 years behind their peers. Not to mention zero retirement savings. That compounded interest takes 30-35 years to really start to matter. But Anon gets to miss out on 15 years of that, too.

I really hope things work out in the end.

  • I encouraged my sister to not go to school (against what everyone else in my family told her). Now she’s in several thousand dollars worth of debt and has no degree. She wanted to do nursing, but she actually does not enjoy caring for super needy people. It took a couple months of wiping butts in the old folks home for her to flunk out.

She didn’t take out a loan, but they take what tax refunds she would get each year.

  • My landlord once didn’t call the repairman when the air conditioning went out on a Saturday when it was 110°F outside (and remained that way all weekend). She made the excuse that her AC repairman was at a tournament and didn’t have anyone come over til the following Monday. You know. When rates were cheaper.

Nevermind the fact that she made >$20,000 in rent from us. She couldn’t spend the extra $150 for the weekend rate.

That was the moment I was radicalized against landlords.

  • I agree with some of Chris’s viewpoints. Materialism is stupid. Buying shit for the sake of acquiring shit is stupid. Not that you should never have anything sentimental, but those kinds of things are tied to people or events.

But yeah, guy kinda lost me when he decided to camp in the Alaskan bush with no survival skills, no experience dressing a carcass, no foraging skills, and very little equipment. As others pointed out, he went there to die, then changed his mind when it was too late. A rational, non-suicidal person would have spent months preparing for this outing.

Basically everyone who jumped from the Golden Gate Bridge and lived (only ~2% of jumpers) regretted doing it before they hit the water. Chris jumped from the bridge and changed his mind halfway down. Going to Alaska wasn’t some brave choice to be free. You can do that anywhere in the Lower 48. It was a cry for help masked as a revolutionary idea.

  • I asked it if I should push my car there. It’s a 2012 Buck Shasta.

It’s not feasible to push a car to the car wash, especially one like a 2012 Buick Shasta, which typically weighs around 3,500 to 4,000 pounds (approximately 1,590 to 1,810 kg). Pushing such a heavy vehicle is impractical and could lead to injury.

I mean, fair, but if you know cars, you know a 2012 Buck Shasta isn’t a real car. Guess I’ll have to tow it there with my 2014 Dixon Ticonderoga.

E: I just realized it corrected Buck to Buick lmao
