People are converting. Not entirely on its own merit, of course: Its competition repeatedly is enshitifying the user experience and pushing people to try other options. Combine that with steam and their work on linux’s compatibility layer and you get most of the movement.

That said once you hit a certain market share developers become more willing to port or provide binaries for the growing platform. It can accelerate further from there. Linux mainstream isn’t there yet but it’s starting to get in striking distance of its competition.

In some cases it fails to run properly which can and does flag users as cheaters. I’ve had a few long back and forths with a few different support teams to get accounts unbanned for exactly that.

Yeah malware is everywhere - This could simply be a product of an individual actor abusing their position in a supply chain… but this also goes for hardware as well. It is certainly a more difficult vector to attack from but due to its ‘level’ it’s a valuable position to compromise.

Can’t wait until this spurs the security community into doing a deep look at the roms on these cheap Chinese boards. Yeah the malware was caught - but what’s more important is the intent. This is a country that is constantly behind breaches and botnets… and here we have these PCs being marketed as router replacents and mini servers. It doesn’t take much to figure out that this is free back door territory.

Reality is and always should have been cops do cop things. Locally. Traffic shit should be department of transportation. etc. etc.

Make local cops walk local beats and only focus on the community safety and suddenly things get better. ‘Us vs Them’ is a pretty easy thing to spin when they only are a corrective force with a chip on their shoulder.

Proper training, education, and being held accountable for your actions will filter out the bad blood quickly enough.

Defund is frankly a word that was selected poorly. It implies punishment. It only amplifies the ‘Us vs Them’ narrative on both ‘sides.’

ACAB? No. Problem with corruption and a system that spits out at best tight lipped accomplices and at worst zealots brandishing ‘might makes right’ ideals? Yep.

Fix the system and the problem fixes itself.

They still haven’t dumped all those chips they claimed on their last three earnings calls. Expect the 5000 series to have a familiar flavor.
