Personally, I think he’s a franchise QB. Realistically, we haven’t seen enough from him to know for sure. But in terms of off-season moves, what difference does it make?
If, hypothetically, he’s not The Guy… well, guess what: This team is not a QB away from greatness. So what’s the point in trading up for Williams or Maye? You’d only put the team in a worse position to fix the major problems on defense and O-Line, just so you can plug a good prospect QB into a shitty team. It won’t work out.
The move is obvious: Build a team around Sam while you further evaluate if he’s The Guy or not. And if I end up bring wrong, and he’s not The Guy, then you’ve hopefully built a solid team where you can realistically plug in a good QB and find success. So regardless of what you think about the QB position long term, the short term strategy should be obvious to any thinking person.
