My ultimate goal was to get a BMW M3, and then it was a Porsche 997, now I realize that I had what I really wanted all along. For the past several years I’ve owned an E92 M3, then a 987 Cayman S, and then a 997 911 Base. All the time I thought they were what I wanted, but they just never felt like the proper fit for me. They drove great, sounded great, looked great, but they didn’t do it for me. Back in 2008 I had a 1997 Mitsubishi Evolution IV and I fell in love with the chassis. But I always felt like I needed to be moving up in the car echelons.

Here I am 15 years later and I picked up my excellent condition Evo V yesterday. It immediately felt like home, I felt like I belonged in this car and this will truly be my forever car. Of course I’ll have other daily drivers and stuff, but this one will stay with me wherever I go.

Moral of the story: You don’t have to push yourself to buy more expensive cars because YouTubers, publications, and social media tells you they are the best cars. Because they might not be the best cars for YOU.

Enjoy the drive everyone!

There have been cars I owned because, as you said, I thought they were what I wanted. I thought my Miata was what I wanted, but it turns out I’d prefer a Lotus Elan.

Everything I think I want has a more focused version. It turns out, I wanted that instead.
