This is a common occurrence for me since I don’t have much time to play. I often get about halfway through and then stop playing for months. When I come back to it I always want to start from the beginning and then the cycle happens again.
One example for me is Fallout 4
I’m definitely finding true open world games a bit more of a slog than I used to. Life is just really busy and sometimes you just want a game that’s a bit more on rails. I thought I “hated” super linear games, but then I played some, including the Guardians of the Galaxy game, and I found I really enjoyed the “hand holding”. That said, there were definitely times where I wished I could explore a little bit more in those games too. It’s a balance, but true open world games require a lot more thought and effort each play session to build momentum. I’ve been finding if I just focus on the main story and worry less about too many side quests, then I still progress well through the game and get that sense of completion. If you thoroughly enjoyed the game and the game world, then those side quests, collectibles, and achievements will always be there waiting for when you’ve “beaten” the game.
