- Our defense allowed a single touchdown, the entirety of the second half. After a rocky start in the first half, the defense looked outstanding in the second half. If we can get our offense fixed, we definitely have a championship worthy defense.
- Dee Eskeridge looked insane in kick returns. He had four returns for 140 yards. I hope he can continue this form, we have a solid kick returner for years to come.
- JSN looked legit this game. He only had two catches for 41 yards, but one of those catches was that insane one hand snag down the sideline. In addition he most likely would have had a TD, if it was not for that very blatant PI.
- Jordyn Brooks and Bobby Wagner have been looking great as that one two punch at MLB. It seemed like they both involved themselves in every play, and Brooks had that outstanding pick 6 to give us some semblance of hope.
- Witherspoon continues to be worth that top 5 pick. Aside from that one allowed catch which led to the touchdown, Witherspoon was pretty lock down all game. He probably would have stopped Jennings (or at least slowed him for someone else to pick up the tackle) if Woolen and Love hadn’t run into each other.
Those are my five positive takeaways. There are probably more but those are the outstanding ones I noticed.
I think this is a loaded QB draft this year so I definitely think we can pick up some talent there. Not getting the ball to our weapons is the biggest flaw this offense has had all year in my opinion. I don’t know if it’s Geno or Waldron, or both, but the ball seems to exclusively get thrown to DK. Which don’t get me wrong DK is great but you can’t succeed when you’re just throwing to one guy. I think both Fant and Dissly have looked great and they definitely need more looks. The fact that we went from an offense under Wilson that just ran the ball way too much and never let Wilson do anything, to an offense that now feels like it barely runs the ball and just lets Geno chuck the ball up feels so strange to me. Both Charbs and K9 have looked good this year, I just don’t get why it seems like we refuse to let them do anything. But I think a lot of the problems I mention are fixed by us firing Waldron and replacing Geno.
I think Woolen’s regression has been mostly because of that knee injury he sustained. It just seems like he’s playing scared, but I have hope that getting benched will make him hungry for an opportunity he can get and have him back to playing like old Woolen. The lack of discipline one both sides of the ball has been so upsetting to watch, prime example is Forsythe flipping Kinlaw for seemingly no reason and then smiling about it. In addition to it being a deep QB draft I also think this is a pretty good pas rusher draft as well, so hopefully we might be able to pick someone up there too.
Not playing Devin Bush is astounding to me. Like sure he wasn’t great on the Steelers, but he’s only 25 there is no reason to seemingly give up on him immediately, especially since he’s on a one year deal. The one-year deal makes it so easy to just give him a chance and if he doesn’t work out, just drop him.
