He had 5 assists that’s pretty good.

Again, 6 field goals attempts… not sure what you don’t get about that. 0 turnovers, 5 reb, 5 assists, -2. Not a game to write home about but not a performance to be blasted about. I really feel like you guys just get off on shit talking the players. Dude has been great this year

Dude has been great this year

Not on offense he hasn’t. And that is a vital part of the game for an NBA starter, and especially on this team at this moment. Kuz has been steady. Poole has been horrific. The team needs points, and he has scored 11 points or less in half the team’s games. I’ve cheered for his success his entire career here and highlighted during games (including this one) in the game thread all the positive things he’s done - but he has absolutely not been great. Unless we as fans are really just willing to call any old showing up and playing, “great”. Kuz hasn’t even been great, and he’s clearly the best player on the team.

My god bro not you too. He is shooting 53/42/79 on the season. What else do you want? You really want him coming here and taking 15 shots a game? This team doesn’t need ppg, it needs efficiency.

You are so confusing. I’ve seen you post several positive things about his offense, now here you are blasting him? He is doing great relative to anything you can compare to. He is a 60% eFG which is very far above average

Yes, he needs to shoot more. Keeps the defense honest. Else they can just hound Kuz and JP into bad shots. 6 shots --> smokeythataintenough.gif

I was in the “these are our players” camp last year and the prior years, because we were actually trying to win. But we’re tanking here, and the goal is improvement. Deni did not improve tonight, so he’s getting critiqued. I think that’s fair bro. Doesn’t mean I want him off the team, it means I want him to play better and be more aggressive. I even said it in the game thread. I don’t even care if he misses, just try. You’re focusing on stuff that you think is going to lead to wins, like efficiency. When we need to have our young guys out there trying things they can get good at. Deni had plenty of opportunities to get shots up and he didn’t try enough of them. Tomorrow vs the Hawks he needs to change that and be better.

Again, this year is for development. So when guys are not showing that, it’s fair to critique them. That is literally the point of this season, where we don’t care about wins.

Ok, but it’s not exactly up to him whether or not he gets up 15 shots. WUJ has a game plan, a system, and we have other mouths to feed. There are things you can do within the flow of the offense to get a few more shots a game, but he is generally only getting 10 shots or less with his usage. He can’t really change that but so much.

Ok, but it’s not exactly up to him whether or not he gets up 15 shots.

People keep saying this and it’s never been true. Kuz has said ever since he’s been here - they don’t run a single play for him. Not a one. Aint nobody gettin mad at Deni for getting shots up. This is all excuses fans of Deni make (not saying you’re a stan of his) for why he does poorly. Russ was yelling at the dude to take shots. That’s the only way Deni’s gonna get better. Why is dude taking summers with shooting coaches and in his recent presser talking about how he’s working on his shot and his mental state after each shot…to shoot 6 shots a game. Nah. No more excuses, he needs to get going.

All you can really ask of a player is that they succeed within the flow of the offense with the opportunities they are given, and he’s doing that.

No he’s not. He has plenty more opportunities to score and get shots up and he hasn’t done it. I point it out in the game threads. If I’m around tomorrow I’ll point it out every time it happens and tag you, if you want. You let me know. But if it’s going to be this thing where we do the Deni stan thing and just make up invisible non-existent reasons why he just can’t shoot that 7th shot, we can just not even bother. Deni is a starter, playing like 30 minutes a game. No way he should shoot 6 whole shots, and like I said, a couple of those were on the same sequence when he followed up his own miss. 5 actual shot situations in nearly 30 minutes for a starter is insanity for a guy who is the OG on the team and also a supposed budding all-star. The excuses gotta stop mang. Have a good night! We back at it tomorrow, when hopefully Deni stunts on these hoes! And especially on Trae. I can’t stand Trae Young.

Kuzma said that on the Beal-KP teams when he was a tertiary option… he has a 31% usage now. They are definitely running plays for him now, he’s the primary option.

Deni currently has a 17% usage… which is still significantly below Kyle’s 24% usage from the last 2 years. WUJ and teammates would not be happy if he started going out there and shooting 15+ a game suddenly. He also doesn’t need to be… you don’t need to just suddenly double his usage. Give him a little more every couple of weeks and see if he maintains his efficiency. He will get more opportunities as we go along in this rebuild.
