There’s already been tons threads on his horrible impact metrics, defense, efficiency, etc. Everything not only suggests that he’s a bad player, they currently suggest he’s one of the worst starters in the NBA. The coaches have noticed, his minutes have dropped, he closes less.

My question is how long do we play through it?

Giddey even at his best is a below average scorer and below average defender. Despite his solid rebounding numbers, OKC still has a better rebounding percentage without him.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that he hasn’t shown much improvement. Shooting less 3s, more floaters, and less free throws. He guards the worst scorer on the other team, and the worse defender on that team guards him.

And before the Giddey fan club comes in angrily typing without reading, all I ask is for something - anything really, that suggests he’s a positive NBA player.

How long do we keep handicapping ourselves when it’s clear his passing doesn’t outweigh his flaws?

Give him one more year and see if he’s as good as Chet and JDub at age 21. It’s Year 4 and his contract will also be up by then. He still has a lot of value on our team, but his position in our core will be very telling

The team can obviously take that approach. But on the other hand if that happens you basically get zero for Giddey’s departure. If the team does not believe that Giddey is a long term piece the smart play is to trade him at the trade deadline or before year 4.

Spurs desperately need a playmaker I think they would trade anyone other than Wemby/ Vassell/ Keldon, I know they love Sochan over there but I wonder if he’s gettable since Giddey can still have a lot of upside especially all they need is someone who can set up Wemby. On the other hand, we need rebounding and defensive tenacity at PF so Chet would have an easier time cooking on offense

The gap between the two players can be filled in by picks or guys like Tre Mann if need be
