It’s a pretty definitive result here mid year. Kellen Moore has not been missed in Dallas.

Sure, we have really beaten up on some bad teams but that’s what good teams are supposed to do. I would even argue this version of our offense is more efficient and deadlier than ever given the high quality of play we are seeing from Dak Prescott even in the Philadelphia loss.

Dak going from an average of 6.0 yards per play to above 8 - 10 is key. More explosive plays and passes farther downfield . This team figured out Gallup is cooked and turned to Brandin Cooks / Turpin to pick up the slack and it’s working. Most importantly they are targeting CeeDee at a higher rate and ensuring his involvement in creative ways all over the offense from outside, inside, and even sweeps. We’ve seen the return of motion before the snap and even a much smarter gameplan each week to exploit defensive coverages. They aren’t just rolling out players to “beat their guy”, this is a smart football team and that feels so different.

Los Angeles has had injuries but that is still a team with a ton of talent and a QB many argued was an upgrade for Kellen Moore to work with. While they still boast a top 10 offense, the fact that Dallas was able to move forward without missing a beat should be large sign that some combination of Dak, McCarthy, and Shottenheimer was not only able to figure it out but perhaps improve upon what Kellen Moore established.

Keep in mind while the first four weeks certainly rolled out an offense with presumptively a different mindet, there are plenty of teams that undergo scheme changes that often are forced to install the offence throughout mid-year. There used to be a more common expression that a QB or team was in “mid-season form”.

Kellen Moore should be applauded for bringing creativity to a stale offense and assisting the development of Dak Prescott, but the lack of situational playcalling has played a part in likely leading to the firing of coaching staff in LA if they don’t really turn it around. This was the frustration of many of us during his tenure and while we may not be out of the woods, I am seeing a version of this offense that has more potential than I think we would have seen had we retained Kellen Moore.

It’s clear as day to me that going forward, this team will be happy to have moved on from Kellen Moore as long as this efficient and aggressive downfield attack continues.
