One too many pro players have complained about the state of the industry while at the same time abandoning all morals for a quick buck. I’m sure you can think of a couple examples by yourself.

Everyone seems eager to talk about how esports sucks now a days but rarely I see people making the point that it’s because THE WORLD sucks now a days. The entire planet is entering a recession and there are people being laid off everywhere. From Tech Giants to pharmaceuticals to your local McDonald’s, they’re all shedding people to keep profits high in an economy ravaged by a pandemic and wars.

Yeah, there’s no money in esports right now. No shit sherlock, there’s no money ANYWHERE right now.

I understand their frustration but so many times they make it seem like Dota is over because of a lack of money flow to what is, all things considered, a niche sport’s scene.

Venture capital enterprises like Uber and AirBnB are no longer able to operate at a loss. The crypto scam world crashed and burned. Esports is no longer a gold mine, but something to do out of passion.

It’s hard times we live on, but refusing to look at the bigger picture in my opinion only leads to ill-thought arguments that will not bring us closer to a solution.

There’s plenty of money, but is being funneled to billionaires at an alarming rate since the pandemic, where we had the largest transfer of wealth ever. Just look at the revenue of oil companies after the pandemic, why do you think the Saudi government can afford to burn money on pretty much anything?

Is not that there’s no money in Dota, is that Valve decided they will keep all of it. They are even willing to lose money to keep all of the remaining money.
