Because too many coaches are scared of the possibility of a turnover.

Think about how that could have ended in disaster in regulation. It’s raining sideways in Philly and you have Josh with 20 seconds and a TO. He has over 300 yards passing, nearly 100 yards rushing, and is responsible for all four of Buffalo’s TDs at that point.

In order for the Eagles to win that game in regulation, Josh would have had to fumble or throw a clean pick (or have a ball tipped) and then the Eagles D recover with enough time to take a shot downfield or be within range of a FG. This needs to happen on maybe the second play from scrimmage with those 20 seconds left. Otherwise, there isn’t enough time.

I can guarantee that if the Eagles get the ball somehow, miraculously, there aren’t too many players that are going to try to play hero ball because since football is a possession game, they were currently playing not to lose.

    Unfortunately, so was McDermott.
