It’s a recurring theme I’ve seen around since even OW1. People act like using hitscan is just the epitome of skill, and projectile is braindead.

But uh… Projectile has to account for travel time (leading) and bullet drop, enemies can react to your projectile in the air even if you aimed properly, and you almost always have a much lower fire rate. Sure Hanzo can spam arrows all day and land a lucky one eventually, but to be entirely accurate with projectiles takes a lot of effort.

Meanwhile, hitscan, you just put your cursor on someone and hold down LMB. There is no thinking, your bullet just hits.

Why exactly do people believe hitscan is harder to use?

I could be wrong, but I think it’s how a lot of projectiles just flat out can’t be aimed from longer distances, resulting in a “fire and forget” mentality that can be associated with spamming and spraying / praying. You can see this with characters like Pharah, Hanzo, and Junkrat, whose high damage projectiles occasionally kill people they aren’t even aiming for. On the other hand, hitscan requires a certain degree of tracking, especially if the weapons fire rate is slower. Overwatch characters run at a fairly decent clip, so thats why it takes some practice to get used to Widowmaker’s gun or Sojourn ult, hence why some people believe they take “skill.”
