This season is a bust and some major changes need to be made on all levels of the organization and I just don’t think they’re gonna be made unless we miss the playoffs.
First of all I want the higher draft pick. Let the falcons take the 19th pick and dont give them a chance to draft another generational talent that they only know how to use against us. I’ll happily take a borderline top 10 pick since I mostly trust our drafting and scouting (I’m choosing to forget about penning). Whether we use it on Jayden Daniels or a good D-Lineman it still would be a better help than trying to do something in FA.
And I don’t think they’ll fire both but either DA or Pete need to go and management is so set on consistency and “keeping it in house” that they’re not gonna change anything if we make the playoffs despite having the 32nd ranked OC in the league. They’re holding on to any excuse to just keep running it back and being fine with mediocrity. We need to be truly bad in order for any change to happen.
We’ve been in win-now mode ever since Brees got here and it’s time to let it go. That’s what got us into this cap hell that we’re in right now and we can’t just keep “doing what we’re doing” or we’re just gonna get slightly worse each season and in a worse financial spot each year until we gotta bring out the old aints bags.
You are not alone. The team needs a reset not a retool and the only way to kick start management into this process is to have a ruinous season. The coaching staff is not very good, the team is not very motivated, and we need a high draft pick to get a franchise player in the draft. The worst thing we could do is win the Division or have a winning season. It would set us up for more of the same for the next 3-5 years.
I don’t want to see the Saints lose but it could be a good opportunity to play some of our younger players and give them game reps. See what they got.
