The Bob Sutton post spiked a bit of nostalgia I wasn’t expecting and I’m interested in hearing the games or moments in Chiefs history that you’ll never forget.
I’ll start with a bit of a recent one, but the 2017 week 1 game against the Patriots was some of the most fun I had watching the Chiefs. As much as we may not want to admit it, spoiling Brady’s ring ceremony and celebration game was our Super Bowl that year. And I remember genuinely thinking Alex Smith was going to be different that season (he wasn’t).
I’ll also never forget that Titans playoff game that season. Almost as heartbreaking as the 2014 Colts game.
What are some of your pre-Mahomes memories?
Derrick Thomas getting in a fight as a rookie and it went over by the benches and you saw his hand reach up and grab the other guy, I think by the facemask. It was epic.
Montana beating Houston to take us to the AFC Championship game
The total reliability of Tony G. on third down and never, ever dropping a pass. And when he would “dunk” the football.
KC Wolf beating up on opposing teams’ dummies
Neil Smith’s golf swing and the pass rush of him, Saleamua, and DT. This defense reminds me of those days.
Dante Hall in the playoffs. Tamarick Vanover on Monday night football.
Tony Fucking Richardson absolutely annihilating people
Jason Whitlock (before he was an embarrassment) calling out “King Carl” Peterson for his arrogant ways. Whitlock and Posnanski were must-reads. Every week, for years and years. Posnanski’s column about chess and Priest Holmes is a classic.
Thanksgiving game 2005. Had turkey dinner in the parking lot and then KC beat Denver in a really good game.
