Let’s review the timeline:
MCDANIELS
-McDaniels was hired in 2022. All season long he was criticized for being unable to hold leads and close out games.
-It became obvious he was not a great head coach when he lost to the Colts who were being led by interim head coach Jeff Saturday.
-This past offseason the Raiders retooled and improved, but this season saw little improvement. It was an obvious move to fire him and everyone is surprised that it actually happened.
-No doubt the players are ecstatic, especially Davante Adams who was criminally underused.
ZIEGLER
-Also joined the Raiders in 2022. Previously a Patriots guy.
-From reading the Raiders subreddit, no one had a huge problem with his moves, but he was clearly McDaniels guy and choosing Garropolo over Carr was seen as a sideways move at best that pissed off Davante.
-Point being, he didn’t do a whole lot to get fired, but he didn’t do enough to stay hired.
In retrospect, Davante was right to ask for a trade to Raiders. He hasn’t had more success down there, but at least he doesn’t have to endure a rebuild with the dinosaur Packers.
It is beyond obvious that the Packers are in hell. MLF did not do his job by developing these young players, especially Jordan Love. His playcalling, ability to manage the team, hire assistant coaches, and make the Packers better are not his strengths even though that’s what the job currently entails.
Gutekunst has had multiple failed drafts. He decided to move on from Rodgers in 2020 by drafting Jordan Love, then was forced to eat crow as Rodgers won MVP. Instead of trading him right then and there for a massive haul of picks, he gave him an extension. This extension will cripple our team for several years despite trading him to the Jets - where we only are getting two 2nd round picks. Compare this to Russel Wilson who was traded a season earlier and earned the Seahawks a 1st round pick, two 2nd round picks, multiple late round picks, and several players. There will be a 30 for 30 on ESPN one day where the argument is made that he is the worst GM of all time, there’s already been several articles about how he may be the only GM whose decisions led to a playoff contender to completely fall off the map while trading all of the team’s star players while they were still in their prime/capable of producing.
So it’s beyond obvious that the Raiders fired their coach and GM for fewer reasons than the Packers are holding onto their coach and GM.
In theory, the board of directors should step in and start punching Murphy in the mouth for allowing all of this to happen under his watch, not to mention for failing to get to a second superbowl with Rodgers.
But the board of directors are all coward lemmings who are in the position to do something to fix the team, but instead rubber stamp everything Murphy and Gutekunst do.
The whole fairytale “only team without an owner” has become a negative rather than a positive. Guys get ingrained in the Packers org and then become impossible to remove because of internal politics, regardless of how competent they are are performing their jobs.
I truly believe we are at the start of a long rebuild where it becomes obvious the Packers need to find a local owner who will keep the team in Green Bay. The only situation that could change that is if another HoF QB falls into our lap (and we proceed to waste his career as he covers up all of this).
The Packers charter does not allow the to be bought out or sold.
