i remember when we had to pray and wish for a win against any decent team because the team was just horrible. now, we can and often expect to beat any team in the league. as a fan, even with the losses, it’s exciting to go into any game with optimism that isn’t delusional. save your over analyzed stats and calling for coach’s heads when we are one game back in the division and haven’t been blown out. the close games we won before we’ve lost this year. still a lot of season left and it’s far from over.

as a fan for over 30 years, this is a good time to cheer for them bills…

I get the point that all the folks who say “at least this isn’t as bad as the drought!” are making, but you have to realize that with football, as in life, your expectations should change.

Think of it this way: Let’s say you were unemployed for a long time. You’'ve been applying, and you’ll take any job you can get. Then, you land a job! And not just any job, this is a job that you really, truly enjoy; rewarding work that you’re good at, fun co-workers, a kick ass boss, great benefits/salary, etc. You can see yourself staying in this job for the rest of your career.

However, after a few years, things start to not be quite as good. The work starts to become not so enjoyable. A few of those great co-workers leave. You start to deal with more BS from your boss.

Would you tell someone who was in this situation “at least you aren’t unemployed!” Yes, obviously having a crappy job is better than not having one at all, but based on your situation, your expectations of the job have changed, and rightfully so. This is how we should approach our expectations of the Bills.
