So once again, our biggest problem is a lack of 3 point shooting and floor spacing. I’m not a fan of how Weltham has constructed this roster in general, but a short term solution would be benching Suggs. There is just not enough shooting in the starting lineup. We need to start either Cole Anthony or Gary Harris or both. We have 2 guards who can shoot 3s, and 2 guards who cannot. Starting the 2 guards who cannot shoot is just idiotic. Suggs and Fultz should never be on the court at the same time. I don’t think we should bench Fultz, he’s at least efficient from 2 point land, unlike Suggs, and he makes the whole offense run smoother with his playmaking. It doesn’t seem like we want to start Cole Anthony, as evidenced by starting Anthony Black the other day, so the obvious solution is to bench Jalen Suggs and start Gary Harris like we did last year. I’m sure there’s some analytics out there that say Jalen is the better overall player because of his defense, but we need to ignore the analytics and use some common sense here. Just having one knockdown shooter in the starting lineup would completely change the dynamic of our offense and open up the paint for Franz and Paolo. Paolo has done a great job of being unselfish and kicking the ball out, but he doesn’t have a shooter to kick it to. I think starting Gary instead of Jalen and encouraging him to shoot a lot could totally revolutionize our offense and set us up for a deep playoff run. Gary needs to start and shoot as much as possible. Jalen would fit perfectly on the second team where Cole can carry the offensive load. Also, Joe Ingles needs to start shooting. We brought him here to shoot and yet he looks scared to shoot. He’s a 40% career 3 point shooter, I doubt that he’s just forgotten how to shoot. If Mosley doesn’t know what he’s doing with these lineups, then Weltham needs to step in and tell him what to do. We are not getting anywhere special with this starting lineup full of 30% chuckers.
I’m with you. Gary to start, and more shots from Jingles.
The caveat is that they have to be the right kind of shots- we don’t want them jacking then from anywhere. Both are elite spot up shooters, but thus far we’ve done barely anything to get them in their sweet spots. How about we occasionally run some plays for them? That’d be nice.
