Dear fellow SD users,

A trivial, point-blank question. Are you going to upgrade?

As I have the (former) top-of-the-line and non-modded model, I wonder if the improvements of the OLED version justify the price. I believe they do, especially in the long run. What’s your take? Will you hold on what you have or bite the bullet?

Thanks for your replies :)

I will be upgrading (hopefully to the 512Gb OLED, assuming they don’t sell out before I can check-out). Currently playing on a 256Gb model.

    Many reasons why I’m upgrading:

    • Got a wifi 6E capable router, so faster downloads via wifi. Hopefully download speeds fast enough via wifi that mean I don’t have to keep hard-wiring to my router with a USB-C to Ethernet adapter when downloading games to deck.

    • Better panel type. Got an OLED TV and the colours and 120Hz refresh rate look much better than the LCD 60Hz Steam Deck I’m currently using.

    • Considerably better battery life. Self explanatory really.

    • Bigger capacity SSD than my current model.

    • Longer charging cable which is handy as I play on the couch mainly and the existing 1.5m cable means I always have to sit in the same place on the couch while charging, unless I move the couch closer to the electricity socket, which I don’t want to do as it’s currently central for my TV.

    • Steam Deck 2 not likely to be released until 2025 based on rumours, so still a while away if true.

    • Can sell my old model to part fund the OLED.

Lots of things telling me I should bite the bullet and upgrade 👀👍🏼
