Suppose I’m building a straight line out to infinity consisting of nothing but powered and detector rails, and I want the detector rails to power every single powered rail, but I also want to minimize my use of detector rails. How many powered rails can I afford to place in between each detector rail to ensure that each powered rail gets powered before I have to ride over another detector rail to power the next set?

Levers are cheap. If you don’t care for the look, they can be placed under the block the powered rail is on for a cleaner look.
